Mr Casson has Revealed six Final Choices!

Post by McMark » Mon Sep 29, 2014 8:41 pm

Taken from the NWEM:

PAUL Casson has revealed his short-list of potential new names for Holker Street’s Cross Bar – and fans have until Friday lunchtime to cast their vote.

A deadline for fans to make suggestions for what Barrow AFC’s fan bar should be called going forward passed at 5pm today (Monday).

And now Mr Casson has revealed six final choices, with ‘The Cross Bar’ included for those fans who want the club to retain the same name. The result of the vote will be decisive.

Barrow are set to reveal that vote result on Saturday when AFC host Lowestoft Town and when Mr Casson will unveil the new-look bar, following refurbishment work.

Email your preferred choice to office@barrowafc.com by 12pm on Friday (Oct 3).

Choose from the following options:

THE CROSS BAR
SQUARE ONE
ZIGGERS
THE BLUEBIRD
THE STEELWORKS END
THE BLUE COURT

My suggestion was Square One because it had that historical footy reference, reflected the building and was in common parlance.
I also like Ziggers btw.
As was commented on by someone else there is already a bar in town called The Steelworks and we could do without the confusion.
The Bluebird is a place with a great history and it was a shame to see it disappear but I think a second Bluebird would detract from that.
The Blue Court...? I can only think it refers to the old squash courts?
And the Crossbar. Personally I think this is part of a great move away from the days of scraping by and if there was ever a symbol of scraping by and making do then it is/was the Crossbar. Time to move on.

Back to Square One for some post match beers folks.

The Steelworks End for me, a bit of a connection with the past. The Bluebird a close second.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Square one and blue court are shite. Wouldnt mind any of the others but not massively arsed about this.

Even if the name gets changed it will still be referred to the cross bar just like the ground i havent heard anyone say "are you going to the furness building society stadium"

I voted for Square One too. For all the reasons that Hoss mentioned as well as it being original (at least to me anyway).
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.

If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

For me leave it as it is The Cross Bar.

Like others have said its all people will call it anyway. The Cross Bar is part of the club and for me it should stay as it is. The only other name I would of gone for is something related to the Keens as if it wasnt for Tony and Brian then we would not have a club let alone a bar...

Hmmmm, not Ziggers, not The Bluebird (been done), not keen on the Blue Court, The Steelworks End is good but could confuse folk with The Steelworks, The Cross Bar is good, I like that and Square One has a certain appeal to it.

Deffoes between the Cross Bar and Square One for me, not sure which way I'll go just yet.

Arrowsmith, anyone ;)

I suggested Ziggers but wouldn't mind any of them, apart from Blue Court, not too keen on that.

The Cross Bar. However, what about having the corporate rooms renamed- 1990, 2010 and 1967 legends rooms. Each decked out with memorabilia of these great sides. team photos, back page headlines etc.

Square One. The meaning is all about going back and having to start all over again. Negative.
