Over night stops

Post by Colin Appleton » Fri Dec 05, 2014 3:19 pm

Just wondered if the team have had many overnight stops before away games this season ? I think they may had one for the opening game at Boston and I think I read somewhere how some players from away had stayed in Barrow before a home game .

Just wondered if anyone knew if this was a regular feature this season ?

Think its the Clubs decision if they do stay overnite. Some locations they have to and are allowed to thru the way that the mileages are worked out. All this is on fixed payment scheme through mileage and stuff. Think the last I read was max of 26 people at around 6p per mile/person...now that was a very long time ago

As most players join the bus on route this hasn't been a consideration. Boston was overnight and in all probability Lowestoft will be. Last week for instance the majority of players joined the coach at the Windmill ( FC United and Chester ) were there at the same time ! And the journey to Worcester was 2hr 10 from there

Tomorrow most will join the coach just after Birch Services on M62

Mileage and overnight costs are only redeemed for cup matches from gate monies after what is a predetermined by F A rules. A couple of years ago Tamworth stayed over night at Abbey House and failed by about 20 miles to qualify :) when beaten 2-0 in the FACup

More teams stay coming to us either Abbey House or Lancaster as the likes of Leamington Gloucester & Worcester draw players from further south than their respective town and cities

Oldham stayed at Clarence House for the pre season friendly !!!!!!!

Hope this clears a bit up

Thanks for that Darcy much appreciated.

I'd hate to think what the travel costs are at this level and they must be a whole lot higher in the Conference Premier.

I read an article that said one of the ways Torquay United are reducing costs this season was travelling to most matches on the day of the game, ok of course if it's a night match but an early start if it's a three o'clock kick off.

Their Manager, Chris Hargreaves is apparently desperate to get more overnight stops. The club say travelling on the day rather than having an overnight stay can save them around £1,200 per trip. So most games are an early set off with the players getting up around 6am on the morning of a match for a 7am ish set off.
