Elliot Newby
Elliot Newby
Just heard on RC that Elliot Newby scored for Wukkie today. Permanent move or on loan ? Also note that Ted Cribley scored for Matlock his second goal against the Reds in the week.

Re: Elliot Newby
Loan.
Re: Elliot Newby
Nice if they tried to develop him I the first team
Re: Elliot Newby
Would be nice. He needs to play out of his skin for the wukkies this year if he is realisticly going to have any chance of breaking into the first team. Also runs the risk of the team potentially outgrowing him if promotion becomes a reality for us.Pedro wrote:Nice if they tried to develop him I the first team

Re: Elliot Newby
Obviously finished at Barrow. Manager moaning about squad size, injured players on bench etc. Would have recalled him and not loaned him out again if we were that desperate.
Re: Elliot Newby
The manager said there is no point bringing people in just to increase numbers, they have to enhance the squad. Where do you think would Newby be in the pecking order for a place?boyliegladbach wrote:Obviously finished at Barrow. He's already in the squad, Cox gave him a contract.Jim wrote:The manager said there is no point bringing people in just to increase numbers, they have to enhance the squad. It shows the true intent .Duncan Nicholson scored a hatrick against Stafford Rangers many years ago dropped the next match In the Northern Premier leagueboyliegladbach wrote:He's already in the squad, Cox gave him a contract.Jim wrote:

I never met or knew the lad but is that rational.Problem is he was a good local.
So PC you played a mediocre keeper for a long time but suppose you will not give Newby a chance because he is a local so much for building for progression
Re: Elliot Newby
That's not the point. Cox wants to improve quality, not quantity, ie bring people in who are better than the 17-18 (or whatever it is) that they now have. Unless you think Newby is going to compete for a place in the starting 11, there is no sense in bringing him back to Holker street to (probably) not even get onto the bench. He was given a contract as, presumably, he is seen as a long term prospect. I imagine it is much the same as Wright and Yates being loaned to us from teams in higher leagues.boyliegladbach wrote:He's already in the squad, Cox gave him a contract.Jim wrote:

Re: Elliot Newby
Personally I would have Newby back at the club and send Haworth out on loan. Haworth has been a major disappointment for me.He has shown glimpses of ability but is a frustrating character.

Re: Elliot Newby
Quality is the word. Firstly I don't think Elliot (or Joel Dixon) were originally PCs signings so ultimately you cant criticise his judgement on them as being contrary or flawed - whether you like his decisions or not. The question would be has he sacrificed a signing that he's made for another player that turned out to be of less or no greater quality and I don't think he has.
In fact the nearest I think his judgement does come into question is with Ross Hannah, where there was a sniff of anxiety if not panic when Cook left and Hannah turned up almost immediately. The fact that Ross has not featured much in PCs preferred first team set-up might suggest a misplaced evaluation based on the lack of goals he's subsequently scored. However, I for one still believe Ross will play a decent part in the second half of the season and from his body language its obvious that he's committed and his mind is in the right place. He remains a true member of the squad.
The crunch comes in January when we have to find 3-5 players (assuming we lose a couple) that fit with the philosophy in a short space of time. If you stick rigidly to the plan, then you either risk sacrificing a play-off spot for lack of the right resources or filling your boots with bodies without worrying too much whether they are a good "fit".

Maybe there a cunning plan to play Hannah and Pana with Miekle and Williams on the wings and tear Rochdale apart.Suffolk Blue wrote: However, I for one still believe Ross will play a decent part in the second half of the season and from his body language its obvious that he's committed and his mind is in the right place. And there's the return of the "he's not getting a chance because he's local" argument. Thought we'd gotten over that ridiculous notion, but evidently not.Pedro wrote:It shows the true intent .Duncan Nicholson scored a hatrick against Stafford Rangers many years ago dropped the next match In the Northern Premier leagueboyliegladbach wrote:

He's not getting a chance because Cox doesn't think he's currently good enough to be playing football for a top 6 Conference team - same with every other local kid. Their place of residence has absolutely no bearing whatsoever.
Oh, I see you managed to shoe-horn your anti-Dixon campaign into the argument too - lack of opportunities to criticise while he's been injured?
I'm not Dixon's biggest fan, but Cox clearly sees him as good enough for this level (to be fair, it's not easy to find many competent/complete keepers for non-league) and that's the long and the short of it.

Didn't Hannah arrive before Cook left?Suffolk Blue wrote:Quality is the word.
