New goalkeeper

Post by Hitthebar22 » Sat Dec 31, 2016 10:40 am

Barrow have signed highly-rated young keeper Ashley Rawlins from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South side Market Drayton Town.

The 20-year-old, who represented Shropshire as a youth, has come through the ranks at Drayton and has been a regular in the first-team for the past two seasons.

Rawlins has had trials at Leicester City, Stoke City, Crewe Alexandra, Bury and Nantwich Town before and during his time at Greenfields.

If he's so highly rated why didnt Leicester City, Stoke City, Crewe Alexandra, Bury or Nantwich Town sign him?
Good luck to the lad, anyway. Hope he does well.

Is he not one to 'bring on' for the future? Seems a bit inexperienced. Surely not going to be thrown in at the deep end against Rochdale?

If they're good enough they're old enough. Good luck lad! Keep tuning into the forum for goalkeeping Pro tips from our team of keyboard experts.

I find this goal keeping problem a bit disconcerting.

It's all well and good having a keeper who's arrived from Arsenal or Forest or Drayton!
BUT it takes time to develop a relationship with your back four. It's slightly worrying...

It's what we have to deal with as our keeper got injured, the replacement left and our reserve keeper can't be rated highly enough by the manager to take over full time.

Shrewsbury 'keeper Shaun Rowley ends his short term loan spell (covering for injury) at Chorley today. Kept a clean sheet against rampant Fylde on Boxing Day and has earned rave reviews at Victory Park including a couple of MOTM. Fans are sorry to see him go.After Dom Smith thought we might have some sort of contact at Shrewsbury.Whatever we need to get this sorted. The whole season could unravel if we get it wrong.

Aimed at me ? My post was in no way critical of the signing of this lad and I hope like Bennet,Williams and Diarra Cox has unearthed a diamond.I was simply commenting on a keeper I know will be available after today. However you must agree that goalkeeper is probably the most important position and you cannot afford to gamble if you want to win titles etc. The next month is probably the biggest test we have had to date.

Not particularly Skipper. It just seems to be a forum trait to find the downside. The first post on this thread in response to the news was entirely predictable. There isn't much point though saying whom we might have signed after we have already signed a second keeper.

I am just willing to believe that the manager and his team have their reasons and know what they are doing.
