Post by Nigel Bamford » Mon Jan 16, 2017 3:23 pm

From the club's Facebook page:

Fans' Feedback!
Are you interested in having a chat with the Lancaster University students about Barrow AFC and helping us to shape our future?
There will be a Fans' Feedback group held on Saturday 28th January at 12pm (before the Forest Green game).
Refreshments will be provided. If you want to help and can spare an hour of your time before the game please PM us or send me an email barrowcommercial@gmail.com .
Thanks, Emma

Is this the same group who asked for us to fill in a questionnaire and the same group who asked for feedback with no response

Doesn't say but I suspect so. Whereas, last time, I think it was mentioned only on the club's web site and not social media, this time it's on Facebook (don't know about Twitter etc.) but it's not on the web site!

It'd be interesting to know what the OBJECTIVE of this CHAT is?
Is it for research purposes? If so - again - what is the objective of the research?
Also, is the chat going to be 'documented'. What will be done with any info that is obtained from Barrow AFC fans?

Hi guys,

We are the Lancaster University students who have been commissioned by Barrow to carry out market research. We have a couple of research objectives. Firstly, we want to increase ticket sales at Barrow. To do this, we want to find out what is stopping fans attending home matches, what people think of the brand of Barrow and what is the awareness of Barrow in the surrounding areas.

We cannot successfully conduct this research without the fans help! We would really appreciate if you would engage with us and attend such opportunities for Feedback such as the focus group before the Forest Green game on Saturday 28th January. Any data that we receive will remain anonymous and will not be able to be traced back to any person. Once we have acquired all our data, we will compile it and present it back to Barrow, from this we can suggest improvements and progress can be made. But we can't do it without you! Please do not hesitate to ask any questions as we will happily answer them!

Lancaster university students,
Adrian, Harry, Ollie, Michael and Nathan

So you want to find out why people don't go to the football by asking people who go to the football? I think I see a flaw in your cunning plan.

I guess to understand why people don't go you first have to understand why people do go?
I wanna take you to an Away Bar

Hello there,

What we just stated are the overall research aims of our project, not that specific focus group. Holding a focus group with Barrow fans is only a small proportion of the research we have been and plan to continue to conduct. The purpose of speaking to barrow fans with regards to your direct question, is that we have noticed that attendance varies game to game and we were wondering what inhibits Barrow fans from attending games more regularly than they do.

We are also holding other focus groups and meetings with other football fans and non-fans alike in the surrounding area who do not attend games. Nevertheless, we are hoping the focus group on Saturday 28th will be very insightful and help answer some of these key research objectives.

This research will hopefully help Barrow grow as a football club as we fight for promotion, please come along on the 28th and we will be happy to answer any of your questions and concerns.

Best of luck with it lads and dont be put off by any cynicism and negativity you encounter on this forum. It's just the nature of the beast.
I'm sure the suggestions will be beneficial to Barrow AFC and hopefully we can implement.

In my opinion, you cant beat a good old survey monkey. If you wanted to post a link on here I'm sure you would get plenty of responses.

Best of luck.

They've already done that. I posted the link to it weeks ago.

hmmm deep man, deeeeeppppp.

Surely its all to do with upbringing, growing up in the town, at school most people picked a top team to support and banter was and is a big part, maybe that's why buses leave the town every weekend as Cassen stated, I personally go to Barrow because you cant beat a live match and a live crowd, and i have a lot of hope for Barrow playing in the 2nd division (Carlisle (if the to**ers don't get promoted that is), Blackpool, Morecambe away would be great). But take a Monday morning at work,in the yard for example its, liverpool, city and united fans, loyalties that go back a lot of years and rivalries at work that are formed by only supporting a premier league club.

Perhaps they could ask those who attend the forum if they are aware of people who used to watch Barrow, and no longer go, and if they know why? And, or, could they be put in touch with them, so they can ask them?

• It’s usually freezing
• It’s usually not very good football
• It’s usually full of people moaning and swearing
• It’s usually hard to find modern day facilities
• It’s usually the best place to be in Barrow on a Saturday
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
