Furloughing players
this from Chesterfield;-
“A small group of players who do not feature in the manager’s plans have now been placed on furlough.
“This decision was taken in consultation with the PFA and there are other National League clubs who have furloughed players.
“The players in question will receive their full salary and we will continue to provide support to ensure that their mental well-being requirements are met during this time.
“Some of the players could have joined other clubs by now had it not been for the fact that the National League North and National League South fixture programmes have been suspended, leading to us to take this temporary measure.”
so it looks like maybe we can furlough players who will not make the 22 man "roster" after all (if we can't loan them out) - which will help finances.

Re: Furloughing players
Mark Simpson has already replied to an Ollie Bayliss tweet about this saying it doesn't seam right - but we'll see;-

Really not so sure on this. Mark Simpson is correct when he says this scheme wasn’t set up so you can furlough existing employees and replace them with new ones

Re: Furloughing players
It’s absolutely disgusting what Chesterfield have proposed and I hope they get told where to go
Re: Furloughing players
Chesterfield's stance really doesn't sit right with me at all, and I really hope from our perspective we wouldn't even think about doing such a thing.

Loads of companies have furloughed staff they just can’t accommodate in the workplace due to social distancing and other reasons and continue to do business. If it’s allowed by the government of the day and and the football league then it’s something we should also be looking into!

Re: Furloughing players
But the company doesn’t go out and hire more staff to cover those they’ve furloughed do they?McMark wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 7:11 pm Loads of companies have furloughed staff they just can’t accommodate in the workplace due to social distancing and other reasons and continue to do business. It should no way be allowed to be used in this way.

Re: Furloughing players
I can't believe HM Revenue & Customs would allow it but looking at the guidance neither can I see any exceptions which would preclude it!

Re: Furloughing players
i think there are 2 types of player here;-
Players like Morgan Penfold who whatever would have been loaned out to lower league teams - that i wouldn't have an issue with.
The 2nd type is your Jason Taylors, Sam Hirds etc who were in the team before we signed additional players. That's harder to accept if they got furloughed.
But in the end i suppose i comes down to this - if the rules allow it and other clubs do it and by other clubs i mean other EFL clubs, then we would be disadvantaging ourselves if we don't. I think it's a case of don't be the 1st club to do it, but if others do and it's accepted then we can?

No football is quite unique in the way it operates. I didn’t say I was in agreement bud as already had a debate on it elsewhere. But if it’s within the rules we would be daft as a business not to explore the avenues available if they are available.Adam29 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 7:20 pmBut the company doesn’t go out and hire more staff to cover those they’ve furloughed do they?McMark wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 7:11 pm Loads of companies have furloughed staff they just can’t accommodate in the workplace due to social distancing and other reasons and continue to do business. With calibre of the Chairman and his profession I'm sure this situation has been or will be explored.
Let's leave it to him and the Board.

Re: Furloughing players
Shouldn't be allowed. Total abuse of the system.
Re: Furloughing players
I don't like that idea either and as I said earlier I really hope we don't take that route, it isn't what the scheme is designed for and wouldn't be a good look whatsoever.
