New Training ground - at De La Salle Sports & Social Club

We are delighted to announce a multi-year agreement with De La Salle Sports & Social Club in Salford for the use and development of their facility as our training base going forward, commencing this pre-season in late June.

The site offers an excellent existing base for our First Team training and there are exciting plans to enhance the facilities going forward to develop it into our long-term training home. These will be confirmed and announced over the next twelve months.

“This is real progress for our Club,” explained Sporting Director, Iain Wood.

“I understand that last year was difficult, but this provides us with an immediate solid foundation to begin pre-season in a great location.

“We can put down our roots straight away here and get the stability we need as a Club and we are pleased to be moving into a partnership with such a progressive organisation.

“The planned future enhancements will only make it a more attractive facility and shows our determination to develop the Club’s infrastructure appropriately going forward.”

Greig Aspinall, Secretary of De La Salle FC added: “De La Salle are really pleased and excited about our new partnership.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Barrow AFC to our Club, in what is hopefully the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship.

“It has been down to the hard work over the years of our volunteers, who have ensured hundreds of children and adults play football in a safe environment week in week out.

“This partnership, attracting a professional level club like Barrow AFC, shows the standards we have set, and this will boost the quality of our pitches and facilities even further with the additional investment.”

Very sensible move getting somewhere sorted for a few years rather than keep shifting about for a few months at a time…..and as mentioned means we can invest in it towards what we need rather than wasting money on somewhere we might only train at very short term

Well the really positive news is that we have training facilities sorted before we begin pre season BUT

De La Salle???? More akin to National League at best and Sunday league at worst.

Not sure the facilities suit an EFL team.

Oh dear. Phil Brown won’t be happy with that at all!

This issue probably caused us more (indirect) damage than any other last season and was probably the one that triggered Cooper’s descent into the abyss from which he never recovered.

Not a guarantee of success of course but evidence at least that we are not repeating mistakes. So good news I think and well done to those who did the deal.

Now if only we could acquire a few more decent players.

Played on them and trained on them. The whole community uses them, usually wrecked by winter if one of the local quad and scrambler gang hasn't wrecked it first.

Ive played rugby there, its a shithole. But its a base to start pre season with. We will need to invest big £££ to make it a decent set up

My God. Hate the place. Played rugby there and unanimously from the team, we were glad to get out of their league. Only hope that we don’t fall foul, by pushing money into them and then having to leave. Having said all that, things can change and at least it’s a start. COYB.

Played there many moons ago it was pretty run down in those days. But looks like it has seen a marked improvements since and by the sounds of it the club are going to improve it further. Hopefully it is finally the long term solution the club are looking for.
