Retained/released list
Just my thoughts ahead of tomorrows announcement will be intresting which players have made it clear they wont be staying next season I think there’s a few players who we will miss but there’s plenty of players out there and I’m sure we will find good replacements.
What’s everyone else’s thoughts what players do you think we will struggle to keep hold of?
Out Of contract
Patrick Brough – I feel he will be one on his way
Mark Ellis - release
Sam Foley – Release, clearly not first choice would make room for a more creative midfielder to chip in with goals/assists
Josh Gordon – not convinced he will be staying
Joe Grayson - versatile could be worth looking at pre season for defensive cover
Josh Kay – keep as squad player
Josh Lillis – release or stay on as keeper coach, can’t see him playing again.
Scott Maloney – not a bad player, could be good to use in the new “B” team
David Moyo – Release.
Solomon Nwaboukei – release
Benni Smales-Braithwaite – Keep and half season loan to National league side
Jason Taylor – new B team manager and first team coach
Pavel Zuk – release/ National league loan
In Contract
Richie Bennett (to summer 2024) – Release
Niall Canavan (to summer 2024) - keep
Paul Farman (to summer 2024) staying
Rory Feeley (to summer 2024) staying
Ged Garner (to summer 2025) staying
Robbie Gotts (to Summer 2025) staying
Elliot Newby (to summer 2024) - keep
George Ray (to summer 2024) - keep
Tyrell Warren (to summer 2024) – keep but not first choice on current form
Ben Whitfield (to summer 2024) - I think he’s off.

Re: Retained/released list
Not sure where all this Ben Whitfield loving is coming from, his form has fell off a cliff second half of the season
Re: Retained/released list
Bit harsh, I think. He did go through a fairly ineffective spell a little while ago, but I've lost count of the number of decent crosses he's delivered with no one there to get on the end of them. Still, its all opinions innit?!!
Re: Retained/released list
Interesting comment from Paul Simpson on RC that players have to be informed within 72 hours of their final game as to whether they are staying or going. Is this new ? Some teams always seemed to be long after in the past.

Agree with that. His early season form helped us get to where we were, even when not as effective he never stopped trying. Imagine the goals we could’ve had with a striker to put away his crosses.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

There seems to have been a few changes - in another one of his interviews he said that contracts run til the end of June but if you don’t have another offer, your contract extends to the end of July.

Benni posted a farewell tweet
Re: Retained/released list
Yep, looks like BSB is on his way, I would’ve like to see him involved with match day squads next season.

Re: Retained/released list
Looks like McClelland as well he'll be a massive loss!
Re: Retained/released list
Not sure whether new or not but some clubs may have an embargo on publication until a (later) given date.

Re: Retained/released list
Sounds like BSB is not being offered a new deal. He just posted the following on twitter
“@BarrowAFC Thank you to the fans and Players for the past year I appreciate all of use for making me feel welcome and Thank you to the Staff giving me a giving me my professional debut I wish you all the best for the future“

Re: Retained/released list
Yes interesting about BSB I thought he looked OK saw him in a couple of the pre-season games and felt he had potential. However, we do have a few wide players in the squad Whitfield, Newby & Kay(if offered a new contract) so that might be in the clubs thinking.
Re: Retained/released list
So does that mean he is staying ?
