Boxing Day

Post by Desmond2-2 » Fri Dec 22, 2023 9:45 am

Hopefully a record crowd since returning to the EFL, but this constant rain is a real concern. With snowfall you can protect the pitch, but this [SwearFilter] rain is gonna cause problems.

Surely a cover could be put on and hire in a water pump to drain it to stop this rain soaking in.

Covers are no good for rain - when you lift the covers the water is only going to go one place

I think as fans we need to encourage everyone we can to get down. we can't rely on social media, send a few texts to your mates and hopefully hit the 5k target

Gunna be a cracker, no pun intended. Hope it stays fine or a lot of home fans are gonna get wet, won't all fit under the Holker End or Wilkie Stand.

I don't know how many people there are in Barrow who would be described as football fans and football followers, but I'll hazard a wild guess at about 20,000 (partly based on how many came out of the woodwork many years ago to turn up for matches such as the Southampton and Leicester FA Cup ties). These are different times I know, so 20,000 is a debatable figure. Anyhow, every one of those 20,000 or so should be itching to get into Holker Street on Boxing Day, even though they can't all be accommodated. It means that it certainly should be "doors closed, full house" on the 26th.

That probably won't be the case (though I hope I am wrong) and there'll still be hordes who won't give their home club a thought and will only be interested in Man Utd, Liverpool et al on the box. I would say to such people you might be able to appreciate what good football is but you haven't a clue about football spirit. Your home-town team has a club and a team at this moment in time that is second to absolutely none in terms of professional commitment, togetherness, and a will to succeed. But hey, crack open another tinnie, slouch back in your armchairs, tune in to the big boys on the TV and carry on being the personification of shallowness within the human race.

bit harsh imo, Barrow have a hard core now of 3,000 and increasing. Rome wasn't built in a day but if you build it they will come. Merry Christmas.

Wild said it perfectly in his post match on Friday “ if they don’t come now when will they” I personally think there will be over 5k

Getting people in for a big game is not the problem, Getting them in on a regular basis takes time and we are heading in the right direction. We are building our fan base again after 48 years of that not happening.
