What a shame, can't have been any great age. Superb player and always seemed to have a smile on his face. RIP Steve and thanks for your endeavours with Barrow.

Very sad. An old fashioned attacking full back. I still have a vivid memory of him charging down the right wing at Wembley in 1990 and putting over a perfect cross for Kenny Gordon to head home.

More sad news. Steve was a very classy full back. His marauding runs were thrilling to watch. And all the more memorable too. RIP Steve.

That's a real shame that. Condolences to his family and friends. Not nostalgia, just a plain footballing fact, I can't ever remember him having anything less than a very good game for us. Consistency personified. RIP Steve 🙏

Terribly sad news, Steve Higgins was one of the mainstays of the Ray Wilkies era - I can’t ever remember him having a bad game. Always seemed to have a smile on his face as well.

Thoughts and sincere condolences to Steves family and friends.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
