Ryan Yates

Post by SKIPPER » Thu Oct 24, 2024 2:39 pm

Just watched a YT vlog with Ryan Yates interviewed. Asked the significance of the No.22 shirt at Forest he explained it all started at Barrow. Apparently when he arrived he was handed the No 22 shirt which had clearly had a previous owner and 'Yates' had been stencilled over the remnants of the name. He took that as an omen and has tried to keep that number ever since wherever he has been. It has clearly worked. Whilst at Barrow and subsequent loans there was definitely a feeling amongst Forest fans that his release was just a matter of time. Now he is captain of a vastly improved Forest and being touted by some as England material.A perfect example to getting rewards if you keep trying to improve.

Madness that Forest fans thought he’d get released when he was here; he was different gravy to most other loans we’d had

Ah, those were the days. That has to be up there with B RROW CO N IL and having to play in Gainsborough Trinity's second strip when we turned up there with the same colour shirts as theirs in the FA Trophy in 2013 in the pantheon of great Barrow kit disasters. God, I miss non-League sometimes (no, I don't).

Sorry, not exactly on topic. Great to see Ryan has done so well.

Remember him at Dagenham when we put 4 past them. He was exceptional. One of the very few that when you watch them, you know that you are watching someone with a long way to travel in their career. And such a great personality and attitude with it. Always watch out for him when Forest are televised

He’s having a great game again this evening. Can’t be many better English CDMs at the moment.

Number 22 must have a life of its own at Holker st. Can you remember the 22 hand drawn with a sharpie on the back of Dominic Rowe's shirt? When it started to rain or Rowe got a bit of a sweat on it started to run.
Yates was an old head on young shoulders here, in his first game he came on as a sub and instantly started instructing/talking to all the players round him. He had Captain qualities even then.

I now announce three players when describing our club to people who haven’t heard of us. Grant holt. Glenn Murray and for the passed few years Ryan Yates. Glad to see him earn the respect he deserves.

I remember a match at Macclesfield when we turned up in our change strip of red shirts & shorts, and white socks. Except the socks weren't white, but a subdued pink colour. They had evidently been washed with the red kit and the colours had run!

Great player for us, beneficial loan at the time.

I get your point, but Holt is from Carlisle and Murray is from Maryport.
Surely you'd be better mentioning the legendary Emlyn Hughes.
