Obscure preseason venues
Can anyone settle an argument. Having a chat about some of the obscure venues we’ve visited over the years for preseason friendlies. I seem to recall during the Dave and Daz era we played a game in North Wales, I know it was near Chester because I was working there at the time but I can’t remember who the hell it was we played. Was there a side called Broughton or possibly Rossett. I don’t think I’m going mad. Anyone know who it was against or have I just dreamt it up.

Mike Pearson and Phil Bolland’s former team Airbus Uk. Think James Owen was there too.FanzoneFan wrote: ↑Sat May 17, 2025 4:39 pm Can anyone settle an argument. Does anyone know when we played Wren ? During our original Football League days I seem to recall we always used to go to Scotland and play 2 or 3 matches in a few days. I think we once played Dunfermline and possibly Cowdenbeath.

Thanks for that, I’m surprised we played Netherfield and Lancaster I would have thought at the time they both played in the same league as usbehind the goals wrote: ↑Sat May 17, 2025 8:10 pm Here are the Pre-Season games from our early Northern Premier League Seasons.

Can't remember the actual date of the Wren Rovers match but I do remember Jim Pearson playing up front. Also Rob Thomas and Mike Foster playing for Wren.

Armthorpe Welfare was a strange one. Think there was me, Sid and a bloke born in Barrow but a Donny native there that night.

Is that where we got Michael Rankine from?

Re: Obscure preseason venues
Once played a Scottish non-league team away on a pitch no better than a local park one.
Guessing early 70's but can't remember the team.
