Football V Rugby - Attendances
Barrow Raiders have applied for their home games to kick off at 6pm on Saturdays - Will be interesting to see how this works out when the football are at home etc

It means that those who are fans of both can go to both, or if you just want to watch one you go to that one.BarrowLad71 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 1:42 pm Barrow Raiders have applied for their home games to kick off at 6pm on Saturdays - Will be interesting to see how this works out when they football are at home etc

Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
As someone who lives outside of barrow and follows both sides I think this is a great idea. Could make more of a weekend of it rather then going home straight after the game
Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
Raiders season runs end of Jan to mid Sept, so potential maybe 6-8 games over the season if the two club’s fixtures have them both at home on any given match day. I would say minimal attendance impact. In fact it may actually help if theres’s a dual ticket deal.

Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
Barrow Raiders only have 12 home league games so if it affects 6/8 games that’s over half their home fixtures. The move has not gone down well with many Raiders fans or supporters of visiting teams who look forward to their summer Sunday trips to Craven park. Could potentially be a massive mistake by the Raiders from a financial perspectiveJonty wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 4:55 pm Raiders season runs end of Jan to mid Sept, so potential maybe 6-8 games over the season if the two club’s fixtures have them both at home on any given match day. I do however like the idea of a dual ticket. Maybe it’s something both clubs could talk about once the fixtures are known

Fair comment. I was looking at it from a Barrow AFC attendance perspective. Agree - not good for home/away fans or those who like the Sunday games.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 5:32 pmBarrow Raiders only have 12 home league games so if it affects 6/8 games that’s over half their home fixtures. Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
Don't follow the rugby but want them to do well as successful Barrow clubs boost the feel good factor all round. Interesting to note the following snippet of info on the Raiders official site….
“Although we believe that promotion and relegation should be decided by matters on the field, coupled with minimum standards, we do acknowledge that much of the grading system is designed to help us focus on raising standards of the club.
The lack of a Super League standard stadium is obviously going to hold the club back no matter how many points are scored in other areas.
The location of the stadium gives little scope for improvement, and the club is actively exploring the possibility of a new facility that would give the town and club something to be proud of.
The massive investment and multiplying local workforce may mean that funding becomes available and we continue to canvass key stakeholders in the town.

Wouldn't be surprised if that is the marina development.
Interesting to know if Barrow AFC are involved on a joint basis or if they are looking at a new ground of their own down there.

Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
The £220m regeneration money is too big an opportunity to not at least be involved in conversations. If anything- its a massive decision for the whole community, and (in my view) should at least be public / fan engagement on it to gauge views. It would shape both clubs for next 50 years. If the club can do it alone, great, but don't miss out on it by not being at the table.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 7:11 pm Wouldn't be surprised if that is the marina development.

Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
You know my views on this Jonty . For directors of both clubs not to be round the table in discussions on what/if could be available for both clubs would be a dereliction of duty by both clubs owners and would be letting the fans and the town s sports fans down. The just have to be at the table IMOJonty wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 7:23 pmThe £220m regeneration money is too big an opportunity to not at least be involved in conversations. As for the so called Marina development that appears to be solely for housing numbering around 800 homes.

That exactly is what they are talking about RE Marina Development - it is noted within the ‘ Brilliant Barrow ‘ minutes as previously discussed on the forum I’m lead to believe Barrow Afc showed no interest in this venture.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 7:11 pm Wouldn't be surprised if that is the marina development.

Barrow Raiders are obviously interested as it makes sense for themselves.
To the point of the post of the rugby moving kick offs be interesting to see the numbers of both clubs when they are playing - the rugby May possibly structure it so it does not clash with football. I know some of the stewards work at both so that could be another obstacle

Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
There are no plans to build anything other than 800 houses on the so called Marina Village. Info in link belowBarrowLad71 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 10:31 pm

Re: Football V Rugby - Attendances
Both clubs have decaying grounds but a groundshare in a community stadium is a huge NO from me.
We can talk about it over a pre-match pint in the crossbar on Saturday Jonty

So you wouldn't want something like the City of York have got? Something that the community can enjoy and be proud of and enabling both clubs in the city to progress and move forward as was seen last week with York Knights being admitted to Super League.

And be paying the council masses of money in rent every monthMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 8:45 amSo you wouldn't want something like the City of York have got? We are talking about needing more money in investment now - imagine what it would be like if the money that we make during the week from people using Holker Street for meetings was taken away - added to having to fork out rent as well.
Holker street isn’t perfect, but what we make on it is ours - that wouldn’t be the case if we played in a council owned stadium
