Re: Will we vote with our feet?

I am a core supporter. I'll be there because that's what supporters will do.

Re: Barrow v Chesterfield match thread

Got to agree with 45 Years +. ( Can your check your pms 45 Years + ? ). Sadly our current fan base is essentially only mid table National League. We've always suffered from lack of support. This is nothing new and has always been the case over the last 125 years irrespective of results. Back in 1967...

Re: 1972 how times have changed.

Incorrect. In the voting system the 1st and 2nd division clubs had 1 vote each. The 3rd and 4th divisions had 6 votes between them. Self interest resulted in the 3rd and 4th divisions votes being always cast in favour of the 4 clubs seeking re election. Also this was a secret vote, so no one really ...

Boxing Day attendance 1968

Yesterday's attendance of 5,866 was the highest Barrow Football League gate since Boxing Day 1968. It is also the first time the gate has topped 5000 since the Fulham game on 30 August 1969 when 5,665 were present. The last time we had a gate in excess of yesterday was ( ironically enough ) Boxing D...

Re: Boxing Day

To answer the question as to when we last had an attendance in excess of 5.000 in a league match.

Football League Div 3 ( now L1 ) August 30 1969. Barrow 3 Fulham 1. Att. 5665.

Three years and one month later we lost at home 0 - 3 to Great Harwood in the Northern Premier League. Att. 409

Re: Our Position in Context

That's correct andyg. The other 2 occasions we bettered 9th position were 1966/67 when we were 3rd in Division 4, and 1967/68 when we finished 8th in Division 3. That's five in all. I suppose pedantically it could be argued that our 19th finish in 1968/69 and 23rd in 1969/70 , being in Division 3, w...

Our Position in Context

Now that we have confirmed a 9th place finish, a time for reflection. In our previous 46 seasons as a EFL club, we have finished in the top half of the table on only 13 occasions. We have bettered a 9th place finish on only 5 occasions. Of the 33 seasons when we finished bottom half, 18 of those wer...

Re: End Of Year Trivia: Annoying Tannoying at H.S.

Oh this is great !! Nostalgia ain't what it used to be ! But we did have an appreciable amount of Brass Band music played over the tannoy as well as the occasional " live " brass Band who would march up and down the pitch at half time. But the titles of the pieces played have always been a...

On 4th April 1998 goalkeeper Steve Farrelly was injured early in the top of the table match versus Runcorn at Holker Street. Barrow had no reserve keeper and the legendary centre back Eddie Johnson went between the sticks. Barrow went on to win this match 1 - 0 in front of 1,743 spectators, with Edd...

Re: Early kick-offs ?

Watching Barrow since 1956. KO times varied. I recall a few 2.00pm kick offs but the only programme I have with evidence of kick off times is the Chelsea v Barrow FA Cup tie on 10 January 1948. Before Stamford Bridge had floodlights and this kicked off at 2.15 pm. I also recall Barrow v Birmingham C...

Just to throw another into the mix. What about the 1939 /40 War Cup games against Liverpool ?? First leg at Holker Street on 20 April 1940. Barrow 2 ( T. Harris 2 ) Liverpool 0. att 5,963. Second Leg at Anfield on 27 April 1940. Liverpool 1 ( Fagan) Barrow 2 ( T. Harris 2 ) att 9,147. Liverpool side...
