This might be nonsense but I heard off Bristol Rovers fans last season that the stewards at Forest Green (and perhaps the club as a whole) were an almighty bunch of pillocks at their playoff semi final, I think they are just like that with everyone, extreme jobsworths.

It is a poor referee who rushes in to award a soft penalty, knowing the probable impact on a game. We've all seen them. Those slight shirt tugs in the corner of the box while a move is fizzling out.
A goal is likely to result, and could be the crucial moment of the match. In a sport with on average perhaps 2 or 3 "scores" per game, this has the potential to have massive significance.

It is a worse referee still who punishes an accidental handball with a penalty (a very likely goal) AND a red card. This sabotages the contest.

From all reports so far, the handball was not deliberate. There was no wilful act to move hand towards ball.
Further, within the first 20 minutes of a game, it is unlikely an experienced player like Livesey would have sufficient motive to risk the ultimate sanction of a red card by deliberately handling.

If a goal scoring chance has been denied, perhaps with an arm in the often-talked about unnatural position (as Livesey lacked the foresight to temporarily detach it) but without an obvious deliberate movement towards the ball, a penalty only (very likely goal) seems a suitable punishment.

To lose our captain, central rock, and a goal in such circumstances so early on was catastrophic to our chances in one of the season's toughest assignments.

A referee should have the common sense to factor in the timing of what is deemed an offence, and the possible gains of such an action by the so-called offender. It sounded like there was no hope of the above with the one today.

Harsh and hasty (these were two games we were fully expected to lose) but wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Paul Murray in charge before Christmas if there is no improvement in upcoming games.

It's my 40th season watching football and the decision for the sending of in the first half as in the top 5 as dreadful. How, with 2/3 on the line can it be a sending off? We'd started quite brightly but were killed by a dreadful referee who if anyone had evidence would describe as corrupt. That's how strongly I feel about his performance.

In terms of how we were treated, we were initially refused entry because we had been 'singing in town' when we ignored and challenged this the stewards lied and said this was information given by our coach driver (this was admitted by a steward after the game.

Then let's turn to the alleged responsible parent who because he was with his child saw fit to insult and threaten an 18 year old girl . You are a coward and a loudmouth. Please do 'make the trip' now although we all know you won't. If you are reading this from Forest Green, please do copy and paste that on to your forum.

Dreadful ref and a ground full of liars.

How we played was immaterial, any attempt to analyse it is pointless. They cheated, that's it.

A good day out ruined by inept refereeing and hosting. Actually to call it inept would be a kindness.

Firstly - why do we have so many bell-ends on this forum able to form such crystalised opinions when they weren't at the game. I wasn't there on Tuesday at Grimsby but by talking to those that were this was a completely different kettle of fish. For 15-20 minutes we were shading the game but in one moment of complete madness the referee handed the game to FGR and spoiled it as a contest. Penalty? By the letter of the law, maybe, maybe not, but it would be given more often than not so no complaints. However for such decisions I have rarely seen a yellow card handed out let alone a red. From there on I have to assume that the ref and other officials were on the payroll of FGR as that is the only way I can comprehend such a display. In almost 40 years of watching football I have seen some bad officiating but this was the worst I have encountered. He compounded the ridiculous red card with one unexplicable decision after another. When a set of fans are chanting for the manager to walk the players off because the ref is a cheat it is clear something is awry and the FGR fans I spoke to after the game were equally perplexed by what occurred.

The game was killed as a contest and we were picked off on several occasions but the team fought their corner and Mellor, Williams, Fofana & Haworth in particular impressed. Not to labour the point we do need a new right back but the rest of the team is far from the train wreck that some would have us believe. Felt sorry for players and staff and they were roundly applauded by the ever excellent support for their efforts.

Now to the off the pitch incidents. I have to say that the FGR fans that I encountered were an excellent bunch although I am not sure where the other 500 were as they agreed that their crowds are artificially inflated - one can only assume this money is laundered to pay officials. The Village Inn and chippy in Nailsworth plus the Alehouse in Stroud were also excellent hosts (The Village Inn being overrun for a short while by Exiles and most of the Barrow coach but coped admirably. The same cannot be said however for FGR as a club. Stewards who were clueless and told fans they were not going to be allowed in and lied as to the reason why. Apparently a bus stop in Nailsworth was destroyed however it was still alive and kicking after the game. There also seemed to be a case of local photographers being told by stewards to focus pictures on our supporters - when confronted by myself the photographer as much as admitted this and then moved away from our end.

Still had a good day out with an extended stay in Stroud to drown our sorrows but certainly very angry at a lot of what happened today. I hope the referee can sleep tonight but I suspect he will have no problem on the bed of £20 notes he will have made for himself.
