Re: Commercial Development Manager Vacancy at Barrow AFC
Depends what they'll pay, if we are paying others part time too to do jobs at the club, who they will be subordinate to, I can't see it being a lot.
I would be delighted if it went to someone not either a friend or family. Someone young, maybe second job in business, wanting to cut their teeth at Barrow, but with an understanding of the town etc.
Thee whole structure of who's in charge of what down there is weird though IMO and hampers progress (not just in Paul's era I might add)

Re: Commercial Development Manager Vacancy at Barrow AFC
I'm not over fussed whether the successful candidate is a family member / friend or not, as long as he or she is the best person for the job.
Challenges to be faced include basics such as merchandising, sponsorship (both corporate and individual), keeping the website updated, and interacting with the local community. And exploit fundraising opportunities generally.
We need to substantially raise the club's profile in Barrow and the Furness area, spreading out into Cumbria and North Lancashire. Make people - including those who are not football fans (remember the bingo cards in the sixties, for example?) - want to be part of the club's future.

Square pegs in round holes. Staggered it's continued under the new regime to be honest and as Steve rightly says will always hamper progressbarrowaberdeen wrote:Depends what they'll pay, if we are paying others part time too to do jobs at the club, who they will be subordinate to, I can't see it being a lot.

How much interest will there be in this role? The board want it filled in a month's time and that isn't long to review, interview and appoint somebody. Will the board act quickly?

Only one person fits the criteria for the job and now it is being advertised, over to you a former member of this forum.Steelworks End wrote:I'm not over fussed whether the successful candidate is a family member / friend or not, as long as he or she is the best person for the job.

Re: Commercial Development Manager Vacancy at Barrow AFC
I hope it goes to someone with some a good track record in sales, achieving targets and someone who can be allowed to work to put in place some ideas to sort out different aspects of the club
Might be nice for this person to have a team of part timers to help with certain areas - social media, website, local community, sales, match day activities and non football activities
There are lots of fans on here who could do certain aspects of the job but is there anyone who is the full package ?

Re: Commercial Development Manager Vacancy at Barrow AFC
Job spec refers to needing a qualified individual so assuming that will be someone with a proven business ,sales and marketing background (including academically qualified, not just passion ) I don't think that it is a role for a Barrow fan or supporter ( unless they have the formal skills and knowledge) but someone with experience in a marketing business, corporate role, and it surprises me that its being advertised on a fans forum and not in business or football papers or magazines. ( maybe it is) .
Mr Casson senior has chosen a manager I'm Paul Cox and now a backroom team with a track record to move things forward on the green rectangle ,he should do the same with this role.
A month to put someone like this in place is far too tight a timescale as most employees need that as a period of notice.
Is the club's aim to fill the vacancy with the best most approriate by skills knowledge and qualifications for the job,or with someone that's available in a month?
From reading many comments on here ,one thing for sure will be whoever gets the position will soon be reading that what they do does not meet with what this forum ( a minority of the "supporters" ) thinks should be be being done.

I'm sure that if a former member of this forum has the qualifications ,both academic and practical and a track record in marketing business and sales then his application would be considered with the rest .
Re: Commercial Development Manager Vacancy at Barrow AFC
To appoint someone by mid March it means the new man is already lined up.
2 weeks to advertise, 1 week for I interviews, 4 weeks notice to the new guys employer. That takes up to mid April.

Anyone know where this job is being advertised? It'll need someone with a proven record.

Hopefully it'll be advertised properly on popular recruitment websites and sold as a great opportunity for the right candidate. Which in theory it is.Jonty wrote:Anyone know where this job is being advertised? It'll need someone with a proven record.
I wanna take you to an Away Bar
Re: Commercial Development Manager Vacancy at Barrow AFC
That's what I was thinking. I have not seen it advertised anywhere yet apart from on here. Maybe too early.

Re: Commercial Development Manager Vacancy at Barrow AFC
As well as going to everyone on the HSN mailing list, I also sent the details to a number of round-ball linked organisations (including Footballers' Supporters' Federation (FSF) and Supporters' Direct (SD - including the latter's mailing list), which should alert a number of people with a footballing background to the vacancy. I haven't distributed it beyond the football world, so would assume the club have this side of the house in hand.Jonty wrote:Anyone know where this job is being advertised? Bang on! Exactly what I was thinking.
Then again the Internet at the club was being fixed before Christmas
