Pro's- Ready to develop brownfield site, no Holker Street planning headaches, re-juvenate regeneration in that area, create jobs, sports village, training facilities, all the onsite parking you need. Basically a platform for success for both the football and rugby clubs and the crown jewel of any future waterfront development. Could include a rail station stop, and attract additonal investment for many other facilities, hotels, waterfront bars, etc etc. A true lasting legacy for the town. Barrow is a town with massive investment coming and this would enhance all of this.

Well?

Holker St isn't ideally located, but Salthouse Mills is worse - further from more of the town, no longer within walking distance of the train station or town, less frequent buses, worse road access for travelling/expat fans.

I don't see how it'd create more jobs than Holker St, and there's absolutely no chance of a train station being built there. A hotel or similar is possible, but "Waterfront bars" seems a bit of a stretch.

The space would be good, but IMO it would be a bad location in general.

While I am hopeful that supporters might be consulted on options (and, possibly more importantly, some of the details) I think we can be sure the owner will be taking the decisions.
Spot on Hadrian. We all agreed the club could be bought by Casson so now he can do whatever he wants with it. It just so happens that i think he does have the clubs best interest at heart, he will consult us as and when he can but he is not going to throw money down a hole to put a roof on the HS end if there is a more cost effective solution i.e. moving the stadium/ground sharing etc

if you read the development documents it says price 1.6 million and buyer must accept clear up costs which includes asbestos that has hampered previous ideas to develop this area, non starter in my opinion.

At that price tag it will be derelict wasteland for ever - If a company came along and offered to build on it the council should say yes ok as long as you build community sports facilities to go with it or something like that -

The council knocked back a builder's plans to develop houses thereabouts, a while back stating that it would interfere with the Marina / Dockland redevelopment which never happened. Further, if the EU is so good for the UK how come our only redevelopment project was binned overnight.

Back on message and true to form apparently the Council are sticking all sorts of obstacles in PC's way re stadium development.

Do you care to elaborate on this?

To be fair a former member of this forum, their owner has been there quite a long time and the plans to move to a new stadium were first made public in 2010, they move there this coming season, so it's took them at least six years.

Still good going but we only voted for our takeover a couple of years ago.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

They probably have a more progressive council - you only need to walk around the town centre to see that Barrow is very much stuck in the 1970's whilst other towns have developed town shopping centres/ lesuire and sports facilities etc Barrow has been very much left behind.

Ain't that the truth! Barrow is rapidly becoming a forgotten town.

I'm not sure about the council not being progressive, there's just no cash or grants around Barrow and that that was, went centrally Carlisle way. I know there's been at least one, maybe two (no secret) meetings between them and PC and I think a member of the council who goes home and away to Barrow helped facilitate them.

I think that will quietly tick on so when planning permission is eventually put in there won't be nasty shocks and rows, but I don't see much happening in the next couple of years, possibly until if/when we go up and have access to bigger grants. It makes sense but isn't that inspiring.

I think if we end up redeveloping in this league we should go to the rugby ground for a season and get it done in a oner.

For its faults, at least Holker Street is on the main road in and out of town and is close to the station.

we have talked about this at work and we thought, while holker st is our home we are restricted (because of where it`s situated )as to future development, roads being closed, that garage, lack of space for car parks (thinking of league here),all of course depending on grants, business sponsorship and Paul Casson`s funds.

The spot jonty is on about was discussed years ago and the Asbestos would have to be "capped "it`s too expensive and dangerous to disturb it (i was at the meeting at the town hall when this area was first discussed)

I have also discussed with ex council people about moving to the ormsgill pitches (which has loads of space and close to the main road and in my humble opinion the best option)but even this would not be straight forward, but i don`t believe we can wait forever because don`t the floodlights have to be fixed for the new season? because i`m sure cumbria council said if nothings done we wouldn`t get a safety certificate

That had nowt to do with the EU, the recession put paid to that, folk absolutely love owt like dragging a conversation onto the EU even when it has nothing remotely to do with the EU at the moment.
