Story goes that Cox wanted to bring in a certain player and it was blocked by Casson after Ogden had his say, so undermining the authority of the manager.

How can a player be judged to be a mistake before he's had a chance to play? A manager is employed to manage, and not have others brought in behind his back to give advice to the owner. The buck stops with the owner of course but why employ a manager if you don't allow him to manage?
