Crucial week ahead now.
The manager appointment a huge call. Get it right and we're sailing again....the opposite doesn't require explanation.
The club doesn't feel right these days.

Great interview on Sportsweek R5 this morning with the owner of Billericay Town who are THE non league side at the moment.

A successful businessman who started with nowt and is now a multi millionaire.

Really interesting statement from him when he said - and I paraphrase - 'in business there are three stages - first you lose money, then you break even - and then you make money. Trouble with most people is they bottle it at stage 1.'

As someone who does not go regular anymore I would list the reasons for not going in the follwing priority.

1 cost of entry
2 facilities
3 entertainment factor

You're probably bang on with that!

Reading through this thread some members have listed numerous other reasons including more involvement with the community, better marketing of the club, etc etc...all of which are factors to be taken into consideration.

But I think your three points nail it.

However, there's only been one member (on this thread) who has focused on one very simple but one very valid point:
We're not that well supported.


Back in our FL days - at the height of our success in Div 3 we very rarely got crowds above 5,000. Usual attendances were around the 3,800-4,500 mark apart from the odd 6,000+. That was for a winning team who played attractive, fast flowing, football. Now those attendances might seem pretty good to our younger members who have only followed the club through our Non League days. But back then there were clubs in Div 3 who doubled those figures for home games.

Football, in those days, was probably the only source of weekend entertainment. Nowadays there's loads more to do at the weekend and it's more family orientated - which means if the kids and 'her indoors' don't like Football - you risk entering into a family argument just so you can attend a game. A lot of guys would rather miss their dose of footy for a peaceful life. Okay; I know what I've wrote is just a generalisation but it does happen and its happening more often in present day society. That's why clubs target 'Families' when marketing their 'matchday experience'. The Keens tried it here, remember? However, I don't think marketing Barrow AFC as a 'family' club will reap big dividends. And I don't think giving out free tickets to school kids will reap big rewards either - a nice gesture though. I don't think any amount of advertising/marketing will attract many more than are currently attending our games. A new stadium would probably attract new fans and also the return of many who have kept away over the years. But for how long? The novelty would eventually wear off.

Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is:
We're not that well supported. We never have been.

I'm actually regretting having a Season Ticket. I've paid, so I feel I have to go. The prospect of the rest of the season under Moore as manager is depressing me.
Surely any decent and successful managers at this level all have a job...or they wouldn't be decent and successful. To my mind it is time to do something radical to stir some life back into the season and speculate for a better future.
Get Holty in as Player-Coach/Manager and I have no doubt the whole spirit of the club would lift. All managers start somewhere and usually it is at this level or lower!

I'm afraid you're right. I think they have been waiting for a win to announce the new manager so they can say that the club is making progress under Moore!
