Totally agree just doesn't help when Casson opens his mouth about new stands, top 7 finishes, football league aims, and the great playing squad we currently have apparently!!!!???? This squad is very very poor anyone who states otherwise is deluded!!!! Staying up is our aim and if PC or AC state different they are in a different world to me!!!mikemarshhewasgood wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2017 2:30 pm It’s not 1972 or 1999 situation though is it. Still in the highest echelon of non league football. Still slowly but certainly making ground improvements. Still got some talent in what is mixed bag. So f*** we ain’t going to win the league or probs make the playoffs or have the big Cox as manager. Rather have all of that then boom and bust any day of the week

I fully agree the fans don’t deserve to be told a load of crap, if that’s what it is and the managers appointment should shed some light

Re: Casson
Hope we hear from "Papa Cass" on Moore's appointment. Still don't know why if he is pulling back on the funding why he can't just be honest about it
Re: Casson
He's anony mouse. Lost interest and it shows.
The club is being run down to claw cash back and then pull out or sell off land

He is very quiet. When Cox was appointed he came over and had pictures which featured unsold umbrellas and jackets.

Re: Casson
I think Casson has taken over the club both for nostalgic reasons and for business reasons too. He's pocketed a tidy sum from selling three of the clubs best players in summer but not re-spent this money on buying similar quality players. I think this is the reason Cox left; as he was promised money would be spent on improving the squad this year, with the aim of promotion. But what he saw instead was some of the best players being sold and the money not being re-spent by Casson to replace these players. Added to this, I agree with the comments here that Casson seems to have underestimated the costs involved in running a football club. This is now reflected in the lack of spending and lack of too much progress both on and off the field.
Re: Casson
I think Casson has also looked at the support the club attracts. Nowadays it's around 1200 per week which is obviously not enough to cover what is spent.
He has said that he wants better quality football to attract more fans. Moore has a hard task ahead getting the current players to play the passing sort of football that Casson wants them to.
Sorry Mr Casson - fancy football won't bring in more fans!
The club will always have the stalwarts who will come week in and week out no matter what. It's the floaters you need to attract. Some of them might come for attractive football but are you going to get it from the current squad, now decimated by injuries and lack of talent and ability?
Cox's football wasn't attractive to watch but it was bringing results and it's a results game.
Most of the floaters are attracted by results, not fancy football, which you're hardly likely to get at this level anyway.
Now Casson is obviously trying to rein in the money and having lost the best part of £2M in two years who can blame him?
It hurts me to say it but I thinks there's only one way that Barrow are going. I sincerely hope I'm proved wrong but somehow I doubt I will be.

Re: Casson
They really aren't though (well, not at Barrow)
This comes up as regular as clockwork on here, we went on that amazing run last year and there was no great improvement of attendances, if any. We went on a great run under D&D (not the promotion winning one) and the Tuesday night that bubble burst the attendance was [SwearFilter] poor.
I can remember trying to get usually non attending friends & family to games last autumn and they look at you as if you are seriously mad. Its a bit of everything, winning, attractive football, facilities, marketing, price, nice ground, offers etc etc........not many can get all of that right.
I work with die hard supporters, regular supporters, floating supporters, people who continually want to talk about BAFC, PL club supporters and TV club supporters and apart from that first group it's virtually impossible to get any of the others to attend a game - winning or not.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Casson
I think times have changed now. Go back 15-20 years and it'd have been a mixture of results and decent football that would've got people attending, primarily results. These days though people aren't interested and probably won't be on a consistent basis no matter what. They'll turn out for the odd big game but that's it. 15-20 years ago we didn't have anywhere near the kind of saturation coverage of top flight football that you get these days, and people would now much rather watch their football sat at home or in the pub. Barrow in particular is also a town that gets stuck in a certain mindset, and for a few years now the mindset towards Barrow AFC has been negative. People see it as a poor standard and a waste of money compared to the TV alternative.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2017 7:48 amThey really aren't though (well, not at Barrow)

Re: Casson
Agreed Kieran.
People in Barrow are more interested about going into work on Monday talking about Man United because its popular. If the club wants attendances to be higher they need to find out why they are what they are they address the problems that are found. There are some people who just want to stay inside and drink.
After decent results and high league positions didn't increase crowds, the belief is now that attractive football will bring them all in. People want value for their money and standing in the cold, in abysmal surroundings, watching a poor side try and play nice football won't cut it.
What is attractive football though? Attacking in full leaving yourself open at the back? No point having higher attendances with 4-3 home losses.
Forget the attendances for the next 3 seasons. Get the kids in as soon as possible and watch it slowly grow each year. Make it cool to watch barrow from ages 6 - 16.

Re: Casson
Exactly my point with the 5-13 club example as I’m pretty sure the NWEM only did it to increase sales, maybe someone on here could clarify. Brain wash them while they are young, get the kids to buzz about being a junior member, get the young kids not teens to put pressure on the parents to take them to games, gain the mentality of growing up watching the local side. Not a quick fix but could pay off eventually

Re: Casson
Bang on. It's become unfashionable for Furness kids to watch Barrow AFC because of the trend that's now been set. To reverse this trend the club should be bending over backwards the drag the next generation of Barrow fans in.The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2017 8:49 am Agreed Kieran.
