Re: Football league aims
Wouldn't have got there with Cox either, although probably closer than with Moore. If Cox hadn't wimped out we would still have struggled this season, he knew it, that's why he did one. Squad they put together is pretty poor, nowhere near playoff standard. The hope of last year is killing us. Cox gave and then taketh away.
One day, maybe one day we can dare to dream again.

If Cox had been given money in January he would have give it a damn good go. Those bloody phone lines though!

Fair enough with the above, but if PC has changed his plans then why not say that?I've never kno.cked the cassons far from it but...Cox left(why),holker St doesn't look much different (floodlights apart)the squad is not a patch on last season's and then casson junior comes out with a load of guff saying the next manager will be better or equal to Cox(nothing against Moore) but he clearly isn't.why wasn't PC over here interviewing potential managers?Moore was getting the job all day long, they just hoped we,d win a few (which we didn't).now he's got to get his assistant in(could of done that a few weeks ago).I no we'd be knackered without pc but I think it's very worrying times.anyway up the bluebirdsbluebird90 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 7:56 pm The problem with football forums summed up in one topic - people making statements and making predictions on something they no nothing about!
Lets look at some FACTS:
Conference North Promotion
Pitch redone and maintained
New floodlights
Cross Bar and Reception area refirbished
Old toilets removed
Main stand shot blasted and given a name based on history
Training base found and links developed
Players bought that are of a good enough standard to play league football (sold to league clubs).
Boiler replaced
Marketing manager installed
Community Sports set up expanded
Top half finishes in the national league.
Increased social media presence.
Pre match ticket sales.
Ongoing projects:
Website to increase online revenue including ticket sales and merchandise.
Plans currently being drawn for new stand.
Registration of interest to Barrow Council to take over the lease of the Ormsgill playing fields and convert into a 4G training facility.
That's a lot of money and a lot of long term investment in my eyes. A lot of these things are investments for the future of the club.
I'm sure that as the Cassons have gone along, their plans have changed and lessons have been learned. Fylde and the like may do things one way but that doesn't mean to say its the only way. He may be finding out that its costing more than he thought and wishing that he hadn't promised so much so soon, therefore cutting back, assessing things and re-prioritising? If he is, then surely that's strong leadership?

Re: Football league aims
Grants only covered part of the cost. A significant proportion, probably over 50%, still had to be funded by the club.
It all comes 'round again.

Re: Football league aims
I've always found Casson's backing of the Tory candidate Simon Fell in the general election intriguing, can anyone shed any light on the motives behind this? and whether the outcome of the general election has had any impact on the direction of the club since then?

Re: Football league aims
Again - you are ignoring the FACTS, at no point did I say the money had come from the Cassons for the floodlights...... However, grants or not, they are long term investments that benefit the club, as are the other items that you choose to ignore as they defy your own agenda. The fact that they have used grant money, surely shows that as well as investing their own cash, they are willing to explore other avenues to improve the club. Would you agree that this is a sensible option?
Again, lets deal with FACTS - It is a FACT that I'm not the only one who has seen information regarding ormsgill. The club have registered an interest and this information has been made available to those who currently use the fields by the council. I'm surprised that you haven't heard this as it seems to now be common knowledge within the town. Would you regard this as a positive or negative move?

Re: Football league aims
I think there is a fair point about communication (or lack of) on certain issues and often this could help prevent rumours. The recent statement by Casson jnr is a step forward, although for many this wasn't enough.paddy71 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 9:35 pmFair enough with the above, but if PC has changed his plans then why not say that?I've never kno.cked the cassons far from it but...Cox left(why),holker St doesn't look much different (floodlights apart)the squad is not a patch on last season's and then casson junior comes out with a load of guff saying the next manager will be better or equal to Cox(nothing against Moore) but he clearly isn't.why wasn't PC over here interviewing potential managers?Moore was getting the job all day long, they just hoped we,d win a few (which we didn't).now he's got to get his assistant in(could of done that a few weeks ago).I no we'd be knackered without pc but I think it's very worrying times.anyway up the bluebirdsbluebird90 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 7:56 pm The problem with football forums summed up in one topic - people making statements and making predictions on something they no nothing about!

There has obviously been some disagreement between Cox and the owners, but for whatever reason, both parties wish to withhold the details of this - not uncommon within sport. I also wouldn't have chosen Moore, however I've been wrong about managers in the past and I'm willing to be proven wrong again. Let's be honest, some of the most unlikely candidates in managerial roles often do well, likewise some managers you expect to do well, don't..... it's a funny old game!

Re: Football league aims
Although it is a side issue at the moment I would not be so sure about the Ormsgill/Schneider Road pitches being okay. I remember quite few years ago my sons team played there and big lumps of paving slabs and various things such as steel reinforcing wire occasionally worked through to the surface. One or two injuries at the time caused by this. I don't know what it is like now but perhaps something to be cautious of.

The point being you didn't just get a group of lads down the yard to put a submarine together in the hope it would work over the next 5 years.MikeRenney wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 10:08 am a former member of this forum submarines never used to take decades to plan build and test at least not when I worked there.

Its on the site of a tip. I used to play on it for Barrow Juniors and there was a big white lump on one of the pitches that you had to learn to play around. One day they cut it out and it was an old fridge.

I think it's time people smelt the coffee.
Paul (Casson) took over the club with the aim of it reaching the football league,I will tell you now,it is never going to happen.
Anyone who thinks we can rise above national league status needs to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
I wont even mention the ground but, selling three key players and not replacing with like, coupled with poor attendances are not a recipe for advancement of an ambitious club.
To put it simply,we are a conference north club.
