He should certainly be good enough to play in at this level for a couple of years even at his age. Hopefully, he will decide to play as well as manage because a decent central defensive player would be a very good start.

Perhaps if there's little resistance to this kind of thread then we could ask Siemens to sponsor the shirts, although there would be some sort of reluctance from the current shirt sponsors.

Good luck to the fella but I have deep reservations about the club's decision to employ somebody who has no experience of managing a football club (he's been a caretaker manager briefly at Chesterfield).

His playing career indicates a man who will have many contacts in the game. I also salute his comments regarding the team playing attacking football next season. However; his lack of managerial experience doesn't bode well with me and I reckon his limited experience is the reason why he got the job - the Cassons won't have to fork out the kind of wages the others on their short list would have demanded. The appointment doesn't fill me with any optimism at all. I hope I'm proved wrong...

McEvoy,Appleton,Halom,Bayliss,Sheridan - barely a minutes managerial experience between them - arguably five of our top six managers over the last 50 or so years. Nothing more to be said.

In my opinion a good appointment. Reminds me off bayliss in character who also had no prior experience - bayliss personally my fav manager in my lifetime as a barrow fan. Im not to bothered about the style of football- just the points that matter. Good luck to Ian moving forward. Time to get behind him and the team. JT

I don't know about that Mike, I think we are gearing up to go down a league or maybe two. Then we will have 'sustainability' and the owner will have achieved at least one of his stated objectives before he rides out of town again.

Its not all about the budget. We had a decent budget last year and were inconsistent dross. too many well paid players not performing.

I'd suggest lower paid players with heart and desire will do much better.

This may be a surprising season.
