No they wont. Their rules are quite clear. They can choose who they like. It says so in their rules of association and they are backed by the FA. Null and void means they can choose a replacement and since the NL is aligned to the EFL rules an NL club would be stupid to challenge it legally because its legally sound. Indeed its far more sound than the EFL not having a contingency in place s to what happens in the event the season cant be concluded - especially as they do have a rule which can determine the result of a match in the event it cant be completed.Moribund wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 3:56 pm
That's £160k in revenue for us, but the EFL don't see that extra cash. They'll spunk much more than that fighting legal challenges from Harrogate, Notts County, whoever is not happy with the decision to promote us. The Premier League went down from 24 to 20 teams - do you think that was a mistake because of missed match day revenue?
Again, the space is in League 1 not League 2. That issue would need resolving for us to be "invited".
I can only really see 2 options: we play to a conclusion once football resumes, or a proper null and void - everything goes back to being how it was in August 2019. Maybe I'm a pessimist.
As far as the Premiership size is concerned, smaller is more beautiful when you are receiving the billions in cash from SKY and BT. Fewer teams mean more money to go around. The team finishing bottom of the Prem will receive millions for the privilage of being relegated. In that respect the teams who will be most desperate for Promotion in the EFL are Leeds and West Brom as they probably are set to lose the best part of £100 million each. Dont expect them to take a voiding quietly. By the time you get to get to League 2 the sums involved are much much smaller as is the TV revenue so gate money as a proportion of revenue is far more important.
You are right regarding Bury being in League 1 and not 2 so there would need to be a cascade. But I still say that the financial incentives of a 24th League team would far outweigh the costs. If its adopted in L1 it will be in L2.
Lastly your final point is probably the most relevant in all of this debate. If the Prem and EFL decide that we will finish the season whatever the consequences all of this speculation will be put to bed. Though that still assumes that if the Prem cant restart before August/September then all the clubs down the pyramid will be able to do likewise.
