Fortunately I wasn't at Shaw Lane. Listening to BBCRC, it sounded embarrassing on the pitch and was embarrassing after to hear the chairman abused on air.

I remember a wet and windy Tues night away game at Emley a non event of a game played in front of a hand full of fans. Soaking wet through desperate to get home and found we’d locked the car keys in the car!

Probably the trip over the NE in the early 90’s where the game was called off as we’d virtually reached our destination. It was due to a combination of snow and wind, with the wind finally doing for us as it threatened to bring down a tree close to the ground.

Can’t remember who it was we were supposed to be playing....Bishop Auckland...? Something like that. A long slow journey there and an even slower one on the way back in the worsening conditions.

Was Whitley bay December 1990,(bishop Auckland was the previous round) rearranged for the following wednesday when we won 1 0 I think , had about 500 there, went on to play bolton in next round and lostv1 0

The coldest I’ve ever been was at Accrington in the mid nineties. Can’t remember if it was a league or a cup game but it was absolutely bloody freezing.

Marine was probably the worst ground I’ve visited.

FC United worst away performance I’ve witnessed.

The Fleetwood cup game in the mid eighties was a bit lively. Remember there was fisticuffs before, during and after the match ended.
The home end support swelled from next to nothing to a couple of hundred at halftime when word got out that a fleetwood supporter had a meat and potato pie pushed into his face.

Marine was probably the worst ground I’ve visited.

Think Knowsley United was worse. Marine however do hold my record for the best ploughed field ever to be used for a football match.

Whitley Bay indeed. We had a similar experience made slightly worse by being set upon by some locals in a nearby pub - The Foxhunters or something like that. In hindsight we had failed to notice that the bar staff suddenly disappeared as the pub began to fill quite rapidly with homies. Not too badly damaged we set off home and went via the Lakes - I guess Shap was snowbound. We stopped off for a pint in Keswick as we didn't think we would get much further; but somehow we did make it back.

There was a story in circulation that one supporter abondoned his vehicle and set off to walk ending up with frostbite, and eventually losing a leg. Poor bugger. I bet that tree is still standing.
