Re: Decisions being made
The mechanics to do this have already taken place only 3 to be relegated from Div 1, 4 promoted from Div 2 and only 1 relegated from Div 2 to the NL so with that in mind why would they not follow thru and bring the league back to full strength ?Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:27 pm As per previous contributions, the EFL can choose to elect a new member under its own rules. It is one short and can make up the number without having to ask he FA and if it were so minded it could invite any team that has been approved for EFL membership. This would include us but would not solely mean us.
As has been pointed out before the spare place is actually in Div 1, so the EFL would have to engineer a solution that brought it back to a full compliment and then supplement Div 2, but if its members so wish then it can do this.
I've never really thought we'd end up been given the title - too many vested interests. The season is too far gone and I suspect those that aren't voting to save themselves are too weary. I've always thought (as I think does Ian Evatt) that the most likely way into League 2 for next season is if we are voted in. I'm not expecting this to happen but it most certainly could.
The NL members will prove themselves a bunch of turkey and will not vote for Xmas - though I note the NLN and NLS are to be asked first which itself might produce a split result. I'm more interested in what Rick Parry and the FA are doing.
There are video conference meetings tomorrow for the clubs in each division so things may well start to look a little clearer after that.
But can we please put to bed the stories that there will be a vote on which club to invite to replace Bury simply won't happen the process is already defined the vote will be a simple yes or no to enact that process.
And don't forget there is a strong Northern presence in Lge 2 who would all travel to Barrow on the day So why wouldn't those clubs want another N West based club despite the joys of the A590 and believe me Barrow are perceived as having a good away support who they would maximise to visit those clubs against the likes of Crawley and Stevenage who struggle to bring even 100 to Carlisle.
Re: Decisions being made
I just hope we go up.
I remember seeing in the stop press how we were voted out of the league.
I also remember how when Vaughan left and we were relegated our local club Workingtin wanted us to drop down 2 divisions whilst the likes of Kettering tried to back us ironical that Paul Cox is there now
I really think we will be stitched up by the likes of Fylde and Harrogate amongst others.

Re: Decisions being made
Pretty sure that the arrangements for that are already well and truly in place to do that but it does throw up an interesting scenario tho in that if the NL decide their season is finished do Harrogate knock-on and rip up the 3g not knowing which league they will be playing in next season or risk waiting and having a very short period of time to do it should they be confirmed as in the FL for season 20/21Jonty wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:04 pmThey have a 3G pitch put they could rip that up and replace in time for a new season.NORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:02 pm
As I understand it the vote will have 3 options null and void, PPG or as it stands it will have no effect whatsoever on Barrow And as the FL have made it clear they intend hell and high water to finish their leagues including the playoffs they will require two clubs to bring their leagues up to strength.
Worst case scenario is that the NL go for null and void and the FL don't manage to finish the season they will still require one club but that club will be admitted by invitation and not by promotion from what i.m told there is a subsection in the FL rules and basically they would have to have a very good reason to look beyond the highest-ranked NL club particularly in light of the fact that they have already approved the ground and the financial side.
It was suggested earlier in the week that there may be problems with the Harrogate ground has anyone else heard anything about that ? [ as i understand that they may have to swap the home and away ends round as the new terrace needs to share facilities with the end ] I would imagine it would be them who would likely come under threat and it doesn't take a genius to work out who would be shouting the loudest for an alternative solution.

Certain they will replace it now they know there wont be any more football played.

You're probably right, I'm used to being pessimistic.Van Der Nipper wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:00 pmWhy? What are you basing that on other than you're pessimism.
I think the season will be declared finished as clubs will want the certainty. I just hope those who's seasons were over regardless would give a vote to rewarding hard work and not failure.
Popular side since '03.
Re: Decisions being made
There is, at least, a fourth option, as used by rugby union authorities and featured in the NLP this week - a straight average of average PPG per home game and average of PPG per away game which takes some account of the match stages different clubs have reached.
On this basis, looking just at the top eight and taking averages to just two decimal points (and E&OE):
Point total position - Team - PPG - Avge of avge PPG home & away
1 Barrow - 1.89 (1) - 1.89 (1)
2 Harrogate - 1.78 (2) - 1.77 (2)
3 Notts County - 1.66 (3) - 1.64 (3)
4 Yeovil Town - 1.62 (4=) - 1.63 (4)
5 Boreham Wood* - 1.62 (4=) - 1.62 (5)
6 Halifax Town - 1.57 (6) - 1.56 (6)
7 Stockport County 1.49 (7) - 1.49(7)
So, apparently no difference in positions
WARNING - done when tired so I'd be grateful if someone would check my quick calcs.
*Very strong away performance

Re: Decisions being made
What I do quite like is that wherever I read the comments of rival clubs managers, whatever their perspective on where the season goes, I haven't found one that has suggested that we weren't the first in line for a promotion. Even Simon Weaver at Harrogate suggests we would have first dibs. Even Chairman Dave reluctantly conceded that we probably had a case for promotion/election to the EFL (not that he gives a toss)..

I think it makes it pretty clear that the season is over and there will be no promotion or relegation.NORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 11:32 pm

Re: Decisions being made
it makes it pretty clear that there is no promotion or relegation for steps 3-7 and hence no relegation from NLN/NLS to step 3 - but says nothing at all about EFL to NL or NL to NLN/NLS.barrowfan wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 6:57 amI think it makes it pretty clear that the season is over and there will be no promotion or relegation.NORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 11:32 pm

We were in a popularity contest way back in 1972; it didn't end well for us.AugustusCorpa wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:15 pm If it comes down to an ‘invitation’ it will be Barrow.
Imagine the shitstorm if the EFL took another club instead.
