I must admit l have come to terms of Evatt leaving and certainly realised he was destined for bigger and better things, but the issue that still galls me and many others was the way in which this transfer has taken place.
I for one believed in what he preached and his pearls of wisdom about how much he loved the club were nothing more than bull shit and his idea of taking the club further were spoken while he looked to further his careers. I guess honesty and integrity are easy quoted but very rarely followed these days, the players and fans believed and followed him to achieve a minor miracle last year and showed everybody what a good coaching team he had put together what a pity he doesn’t practice what he preaches. Let’s hope he leaves without making a farewell speech, because l for one am sick hi bull shit and lack of honesty and integrity from a man l once admired.
It’s not entirely binary though is it? You can love where you work or the club you are at but still want to take career steps.
I’ve had lots of jobs I loved doing every single day but when a better opportunity came up (or one I perceived as better) I’d consider it. Didn’t mean I didn’t love my current job. Like Eddie Howe left Bournemouth to go to Burnley cos he thought it was better chance for him, he was wrong and it didn’t work out and he went back. But it didn’t make him disloyal. Ultimately football managers and players are just people.
You buy into the vision as fans, as Bolton fans will when he reels off his now well polished interviews. You will hear it all. So as long as you know it will happen to you too. He will be doing exactly the same blueprint with you. So at least we know how he will play.
He could have achieved success on the park with us, we are a small club, but that is not a barrier to success. One season with us would have kept fans on board and he would have had all the well wishes for a move higher up the ladder.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.
