You obviously did not see Barrow play last season, otherwise you would know how we won the league by playing really good football and were constantly being spoken about how refreshing it was to see a non League football team winning the right way, so why don't you think before posting utter garbage, in fact we were praised for the way we played, I won't mention the nickname we were called last season as you obviously don't wander far from your roots.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:58 pm Carlisle Utd. forum comment.
Barrow look relegation fodder on that performance.
Even with our side decimated with injuries we completed dominated them and the bizarre red card should have been academic with the chances we squandered beforehand.
You can see why they did well at Conference level, they're a team of bruisers always in the ear of the ref.
But at League level you need a bit of craft and guile to break teams down and even when they had an extra man they were poor on the ball.
We had better performances across the piece but you would expect that against a struggling side like Barrow.
Have to respect the opinion of your opponents, yes?

Worth saying, though, Mighty Robin, that he has adapted very well and has been one of our better signings, for sure.Mighty Robin wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 1:03 pmThanks - I'll come back again in the hope of positive news.
Don't let the old man in.
Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
My take on things after 4 games, which I have seen apart from first 25 mins yesterday, is that some adjustments to formation and a settled side should enable us to hold our own. People have pointed to the gaps - principally a creative midfielder and another striker alongside Quigley. We need to be more dominant in midfield generally.
I was encouraged seeing Kay get down the left and Barry down the right to get crosses in later in the game. Brough and Kay combined well last season and we need to build on that. I have been disappointed with Angus, he seems to make the wrong decisions much of the time. There was a cross from Brown (with his left foot too) that was crying out for Angus to run in at the far post, but he was hanging back alongside Quigley. He doesn't have the strength inside the box either. Sadly, James and Hindle don't look like better options.
I think the defence can be sorted out. The goals conceded have been poor, but they have been very few. Also, we seem to have plenty of defenders to choose from, once they are all fit (though pity about Jones). Problem is that once we concede, we don't have much hope of scoring!

Problem with our forward subs is that they don’t suit the system. Hindle isn’t much use in a 2, he needs to be wide in a 3. James seems best as a Centre man instead of quigley not with him.
I think if we went 4-3-3 with Kay on the left of quigs and dior on the right we’d be much better going forward.
Taylor deep with Jones and hardcastle would be solid enough.
Barry can play right back. Brought left back. I think that’s much better and more balanced for our players with this style of play. I think our subs can then have more of an impact.

That sounds about right to me, with what we have available at the moment.EHB wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 3:24 pm Problem with our forward subs is that they don’t suit the system. Hindle isn’t much use in a 2, he needs to be wide in a 3. James seems best as a Centre man instead of quigley not with him.

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
Just think if we’re not gonna pass through the middle then why have 8 players playing in central positions in a 3-5-2.
I also think that jones is our best player on the ball - with hardcastle and Biggins in that 3 he has sit more central and deeper. Stick Taylor in there and let Jones play a bit further forward. It will help us transition definitely. One thing I noticed yesterday was how quick we went to the front 2, needs slowing down. Quigley was isolated pretty much each time he got the ball.
One thing I liked about evatt is that he was very open and honest about his style of play and how we were going to play. Don’t really get a sense of vision from Dunn or even a sense he has a style.

As for me, myself, personally, yes I did see Barrow play last year and really enjoyed the quality of play, very entertaining. Nickname? What nickname?

Why would you want to respect the opinion of someone who suggests Barrow did well at Conference level because they were a team of bruisers? Who were always in the ear of the ref which was patently not the case? Who were poor on the ball? (They clearly didn't look at the match stats through their blue-tinted glasses.)
Have to respect the opinion of your opponents? Not when they are writing nonsense to support their opinions.

We have been decent at times but in the main disjointed and second best. Have to say Biggins has disappointed massively.
Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
Then why did you call them bruisers if you saw them play in the National League, clearly they were not.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 9:08 pmExcuse me? Are you talking to me?jaycarter wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 2:13 pm

Re: Carlisle United vs Barrow AFC Match Thread
I'd still play wing backs because Barry is an excellent wing back and attacking is his real strength. Also central defence is our strongest area.EHB wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 3:24 pm Problem with our forward subs is that they don’t suit the system.
When everybody is fit, I'd play James Jones, Platt and either Brough or Ntlhe in central defence and the other at wing back. I'd prefer Brough in central defence but would be happy either way. Of course, Zouma may also come into the reckoning.
Kay is a terrific wing back but the way Angus is playing at the moment, I'd try him up front with Quigley even though he would normally be an automatic choice for left wing back.
That leaves 3 central midfield positions of which 2 must be Hardcastle and Mike Jones. Because of Jones' lack of pace, I'd want the third midfielder to be quick and, like Hardcastle, be able to get around the pitch. I don't think we've got anybody at the moment but, if Zouma turns out to be decent, it could be an idea to play Ntlhe as a defensive midfielder as he's certainly quick and can tackle.
Taylor has been a terrific player for Barrow but he and Mike Jones are both 33 years old. I thought he really struggled to get a tackle in when he played in the friendlies and I don't think you can afford to have 2 of your 3 central midfield players who lack pace.
If we did play 4-3-3, I think your front 3 of Angus, Quigley and Kay is definitely the best choice.
Of course, if we bring in 1 or 2 players, we may have a lot more alternatives.
