I am not privy to the terms and conditions of his contract but I hope our Chairman would have put targets etc in it.
Unfair dismissal wouldn't come into it as he's a contractor. The contract is up to a certain date (30 June 2022) and he either works to that date or the contract is terminated early and he receives the full pay he would have been due up to that date.

That's unless there is special clause in the contract. Possibly something that states the club can remove him a year early without paying any compensation, or perhaps specifying a mutually agreed, reduced compo package in the event of dismissal.

Firstly I said from the start it was a bad appointment.
We appointed a Manager who is financially secure unlike Evatt whom I did not like as a person ,but as my Dad used to say a hungry boxer fights harder
Evatt said once on Radio Cumbria that the Blackpool players got £250k each when they were promoted to the Premier League. He played at a high level for years so unless he’s made bad investments, he is most likely financially secure.

Working by your logic, Nigel Clough would’ve been a bad appointment for us as he’s likely to be financially secure after years playing and managing at a good level.

Exactly. The difference in all of those things is huge.

That record isn't good enough.

However he has over a year-and-a-half left on his contract and that would need to be paid up if the contract was terminated (to the best of my knowledge... there may be a clause that we are not aware of). So if he's on ~£1,500.00 per week, that would mean paying ~£125,000.00 in compensation. It's a lot of money and the manager who replaced him wouldn't work for free.

I do not know the difference in income between the National League and EFL but imagine the EFL will bring with it a lot more money.

My question is can we afford to keep him if it means the loss of our league status?

How can you possibly know what Ian Evatts financial position is?

The realistic mindset. Or we could live in your world where apparently we are good enough to be pushing for the play offs

When do you expect us to start cutting out these errors? We’re almost a third of the way through the season. Time to admit a number of these footballers are not good enough for this level.

I have read with interest the many comments on how the season has been progressing in terms of results and what has been suggested on how to turn things around. As with others some I agree with others I don’t and this is the nature of football it produces strong feelings. The two, to me, things that can’t be disagreed with is that financially relegation would be an absolute disaster for the club and that since the start of the season 2 wins from 18 games over the ninety minutes, which is a 11% win rate, needs to be addressed without delay.

I am sure everyone at the club are doing their best to sort this out and move us away from the dreaded relegation positions and hopefully we will all see this in the next few games and produce the results we all want.

I would also add , the players aren't the same. Particularly the midfield.
That system worked with the players playing in it. A midfielder running riot and up there with league tops scorers, not to mention his creativity and pinpoint passing. Two young lads running non stop all day long. We were passing teams to death. The same system this season looks a bit disjointed. A lot more balls over the top are being played and we're putting in more crosses from out wide. Aside from Quigley, where's the big tall lads to take advantage of balls in the air? Evatt himself once mentioned about calls to "get it in the box" and pointed out the fact that this isn't how we played and why.
We hate Carlisle United, we hate Workington too (and Morecambe), we hate Accrington Stanley but Barrow we love you :scarf:

We just haven't got the physicality, the skill, and manager to stay in this league.

The financial loses for going down is far far greater than getting rid. My toes curl at how much our owners have paid to improve the ground for what could possibly be one season. The mistakes just continue game after game and you look at certain games oldham carlisle and the newport second half and question what tactics we actually use. We are probably 2 players atm short off full strength 11 and struggling to pick up any wins.
All opinions expressed are my own , not here to cause kick off just enact debate.

Agree Nigel Clough may have been a bad appointment but I think he may not have come because of the distance.
Yep Clough has money but he also has a football pedigree unlike Dunn which saw him take Burton from the 7 th tier of football to the brink of the Championship ,he eventually got them to the Championship,he left them due to COVID and the implications it had on the none playing staff going to loose their jobs because of lack of finances.

Here's my two-penneth.

I was concerned when Evatt left, then wasn't reassured by the Dunn appointment and like everyone else at the moment I ain't bursting with confidence going into every game that we are going to score more than we conceded. This is made worse by the fact Dunn has no record to fall back on, so it very difficult to feel encouraged that things will get better under Dunn without a bit of blind faith.

What I would like to point out though is this idea that we should be doing so much better, as I'm not sure what gives us the right to think that this season is nothing more than a battle to survive. Yes we have a side that can play some great-looking football and did wonders in the National League but let's not forget, had some fella not sneezed in a food market in Wuhan, the season could have ended very differently. We have been out of the football league for nearly 50 years and I think it's naive to think we should be sitting pretty, regardless of the potential of our play and how many compliments we get from the manager of Forest Green.

There's also (as mentioned a few times) the massive risk of getting rid of Dunn and there being no guarantees with a new manager. That will have a financial impact even greater than being relegated with Dunn.

So for me, Dunn isn't going anywhere so having a 60-page continuing thread on whether he should after every poor result isn't gonna do anyone any good. It's an old and tedious cliche but all that we have is to get behind him and the team, have some hope and strap ourselves in for the ride... I mean, when have we ever done things the easy way and like it or not, he is one of us now.

I don't think this debate is going anywhere. The Board are certain to keep faith with David Dunn for the foreseeable future. It is significant that the topic has arisen again after a poor performance and disappointing defeat. Yes, results and points have not been what we hoped, but there has been an upward trajectory in terms of performances in the last few weeks, so yesterday could be seen as a blip.

I am not glossing over weaknesses, which are both individual and, at times, tactical, but debating whether Dunn was or was not a good appointment, whether Clough would have been better, and whether Dunn should be sacked now before it is too late, is all pointless in my opinion. We are where we are, some things are history, we need to move on. As far as I am concerned, that means backing the manager and the team and giving them the support and confidence to improve.
