You are both correct i.e. mostly the same players are not performing at the same level in all the areas pointed out by boyliegladbach and your point that the midfield has changed and is levels below last season. However, even with a much weaker midfield we should still be able to survive comfortably if the players were matching their performances of last season.Barra Marra wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 9:04 amI would also add , the players aren't the same. Particularly the midfield.boyliegladbach wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 11:15 pm All well and good people saying its the same formation/system we got promoted with, however the desire, intensity, the passing, the pressing, the tracking back, the winning the ball back and the fitness isn't the same.
That system worked with the players playing in it. A midfielder running riot and up there with league tops scorers, not to mention his creativity and pinpoint passing. Two young lads running non stop all day long. We were passing teams to death. The same system this season looks a bit disjointed. A lot more balls over the top are being played and we're putting in more crosses from out wide. Aside from Quigley, where's the big tall lads to take advantage of balls in the air? Evatt himself once mentioned about calls to "get it in the box" and pointed out the fact that this isn't how we played and why.

Re: David Dunn
If you believe the "rumour" Evatt wasn't good with his money and the club even helped him out before he signed his new deal last season with the get out fee that Bolton paid us! Just because you get good money doesn't make you financially secureMike wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 12:23 amEvatt said once on Radio Cumbria that the Blackpool players got £250k each when they were promoted to the Premier League. He played at a high level for years so unless he’s made bad investments, he is most likely financially secure.
Working by your logic, Nigel Clough would’ve been a bad appointment for us as he’s likely to be financially secure after years playing and managing at a good level.
Re: David Dunn
We have 1 or 2 FA cup games this week - for financial reasons I'd like us to win those games and the possibility of a home tie against a big team with fans in the ground but 2 more games this week will put more strain on the squad. There are 5 league games until Christmas and 1 is a team in relegation so i would say we need at least 7 points from those games at least or i can see DD not being in charge for the Boxing day match !
Re: David Dunn
Totally agree. For those wanting to sack Dunn, what happens if results haven’t improved under the new management team after 2/3 months? Presumably we’d have to get rid of them as well.sempre contigo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 10:53 am There's also (as mentioned a few times) the massive risk of getting rid of Dunn and there being no guarantees with a new manager. That will have a financial impact even greater than being relegated with Dunn.
Could become really costly for the club, bearing in mind that switching doesn’t guarantee staying up.
Re: David Dunn
I agree, i don't want the club to sack DD but in a results business if we drop closer to the bottom of the league over the next few weeks I could see it happening if we can afford it and if they have an idea who to bring in. No it doesn't mean success changing managers but this squad has so much potential when you watch every game, its just silly errors at times which cost us points so things will have to improve - which i hope it doesMike wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 1:38 pmTotally agree. Re: David Dunn
If the board stick with Dunn, they need to back him in the transfer window. If not then we would need a new man in a couple of weeks before the window opens so he could see who is up to the task and what players he needs.
Re: David Dunn
Then realistic expectations are lower than what I thought. A scenario that is not even within Barrow’s own control. Thankfully I don't think the board, the Manager or team will even contemplate a reliance on “two teams being worse than us” will be needed to stay up.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 7:25 amThe realistic mindset. Or we could live in your world where apparently we are good enough to be pushing for the play offs

Well written!sempre contigo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 10:53 am So for me, Dunn isn't going anywhere so having a 60-page continuing thread on whether he should after every poor result isn't gonna do anyone any good. It's an old and tedious cliche but all that we have is to get behind him and the team, have some hope and strap ourselves in for the ride... I mean, when have we ever done things the easy way and like it or not, he is one of us now.
Common sense at last.

Re: David Dunn
So with his track record what sort of 'name' did he have?
Always sounds to me like he's not that confident in himself. so if that comes across to the players we have a problem.
Having said all that I will continue to support him and the players as we need to stay out of the bottom two.

Good players don't always make good managers.

Re: David Dunn
After 48 years out of the league the appointment of Dunn was nothing less than a naive act of self harm by the board. How on earth that man made it to the top of the board's list is beyond comprehension. I can only think that as Barrow seem to have a decent relationship with Blackburrn, some of his mates put in a word for him. After his dreadful spells at Oldham and Blackpool he must have thought all his Christmases had come at once when he got the call. I honestly can't think of one ambitious club in the top 5 divisions that would have given a man with such a dreadful record another job as manager. I said it at the time, the board have gambled 48 years of non league on a lame horse and it may come back to haunt them.

Re: David Dunn
Always check facts - in what way did DD have a dreadful record at Blackpool?
He held the reins for four games as caretaker manager when the team won two, drew one and lost one, a points per game haul which would put a team in the play off places in League Two at the moment.

Re: David Dunn
Perhaps the board of directors who had guided through a tough time and saw us gain promotion interviewed him and thought he was the best prospect for the job.... Think I'd rather trust their judgement than folk watching in from the sidelines speculating on what he has or hasn't done.. He obviously impressed them and as has been shown they are no mugs. That will do for me - Its about time folk stopped all teh biitching and got behind them - through thick and thin... there's a lot of football to go yet.Tavistock Bluebird wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 6:16 pm After 48 years out of the league the appointment of Dunn was nothing less than a naive act of self harm by the board. If it does fail so be it - we were happy enough to support them last year when it was going well, time we repaid that faith...
