Thats fine, but if DD reads this forum then perhaps he could answer it himself. The lad might be the player we are needing at at the moment or he might be useless, but if he is not giving a go we will never know.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 11:01 am I’m not sure the role of the SLO is to contact the manager and ask why he’s not selecting certain players

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
I am not sure 'ball in net' is the problem. Only 12 teams have scored more than us, and ten of them are the top 10. However, only 3 teams have conceded more. On the days when we have scored 2 or 3 goals, we have usually conceded the same number!prague bluebird wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 10:57 am Most people seem to agree that putting the ball in the net is the biggest concern this season. So one question that should be asked by our SLO is what happened to Dmitri Sea, who was brought in as a young striker and is not used, why not if Quigley or Angus fail to score on a regular basis. No harm in giving the lad a start.
Another curious fact - which illustrates the 'fine margins' problem - is the comparison between us and Colchester:
Barrow Goals For 20 Goals against 24 Diff -4 Points 13
Colchester Goals for 23 Goals against 22 Diff +1 Points 24
Scored 3 more than us, conceded 2 less, 11 points better off.
I am not saying we are great, but the league seems topsy turvey at the moment - for example, how did Port Vale on a losing run put 6 past Bolton on a winning run yesterday. I still think we are good enough to hold our own in this league, but we probably need to adopt a mentality of grinding out some results. Defensively, we looked better yesterday, so keep up the good work in defence and take our chances!

I said at yesterday's game about Sea, he looked really good in the last game he played but not been in last 2 squads (is he injured?)prague bluebird wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 10:57 am Most people seem to agree that putting the ball in the net is the biggest concern this season. The 6 second thing from last season is gone. It seems Jason Taylor is the only player we have who can get stuck in to break up play.

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
Having been at the game it disappointed me how often some of our players didn't tackle the opposition but just seemed to stand off, instead of running at Salford. This in turn gave them time to decide who they were going to pass the ball to.Also Quigley should definitely had a penalty in the first half when he was given a yellow card.We were alongside when the Salford players surrounded him and pulled him down. We were shouting at the linesman, but he just ignored us and went with the referee. Barrow are going to have to learn how to play ugly if it means they start to pick up points. At the moment they seem to be getting dominated by sides who play that way.

Correct, loved how we went hunting for it and didn’t allow the oppo more than 6 seconds in possession those were the days....Salford had it for long spells yesterday we just sat back allowing it to happen. How J Taylor did not get a sniff of a run out yesterday baffles me. He runs through brick walls for the cause.... seems his face doesn’t fit at times.

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
Wasn't a fan of the tactics yesterday of letting them have the ball. I thought we should have been at them from the off with their away record. It was only after they scored that we seemed to have a go.
Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
Correct. We stood off them and let them have it right up to the half way line. Allowing them to move it unchallenged and pick passes. Horrible tactic. Think the first foot in tackle we did was in the second half and it drew a cheer from the crowd. Don't know if its a modern football thing but i grew up on good strong tacklers who wouldn't give you a minute on the ball. Now we mark pass lanes.Middleton Nick wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 1:46 pm Wasn't a fan of the tactics yesterday of letting them have the ball. On 24th April 1972 I left Holker Street after watching us lose a Football League game at home. I departed through the gates by the traffic lights, feeling very despondent.
On 5th December 2020 I left Holker Street after watching us lose a Football League game at home. I departed through the gates by the traffic lights, feeling very despondent.
It made me think to myself that some things don't change. To quote words from the "lost" verse from Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer" . . . . . "after changes upon changes we are more or less the same". I couldn't help thinking that although a lot of water, of both peaceful and troubled varieties, has flowed under the bridge since that day back in 1972 there were some things that were no different.
I wonder if, after that same time period has elapsed once more, I'll be repeating the exact same experience? It would mean I'd be either a sprightly 113 years of age or I'd have reincarnated and into another life-span following Barrow AFC. But will we still be in the Football League in 2068-69? Maybe we'll have been relegated but come back, Lazarus-like, yet again? "I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains" pretty much sums up life at Barrow AFC, not just in this current difficult moment but throughout most of our 119 years.

Re: Barrow v Salford match thread
I honestly don't know where we go, people saying we need luck ,really i don't buy this analogy, in this league it's swings and roundabouts.
tactics, at least Dunn tried to change things, then people saying we need to press more , I agree but have we got the players to do this all game?
we definitely need a goalscorer, but we don't exactly help ourselves here i personally don't think we work hard enough up front, you have to be on it for 90 minutes, at times yesterday especially the first half, Quigs, Reid and James never closed their defenders down continually letting them come out with no pressure on them,
something has to change, we keep trying different players etc. but still no end result, hand on heart, I just don't know how this team (at present ) can improve too many key players are injured and by the time they come back it'll be too late!
as for mr Dalys song if it's Simon and garfuncle ,I felt walking home like the guy in the lyrics to their song ,"homeward bound "

Note also that Bolton with identical goal stats to ourselves are nine places above us and have nine more points than usJim wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 12:16 pmI am not sure 'ball in net' is the problem. It’s because we are consistent in an inconsistent league - we constantly draw when we should have won and we constantly lose by the odd goal when we have drawn. Problem is that adds up to not many points!Mr Zebedee wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 9:40 pmNote also that Bolton with identical goal stats to ourselves are nine places above us and have nine more points than usJim wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 12:16 pm
