It’s been a long while since I read the article but basically most of the money disappeared along with these 2 week old companies who had zero previous experience in providing PPE, Total con job.

So capitalising A BILLION POUNDS referring to an article you once read but can't quite remember. How very Internet!

Shame we don't have a National Audit Office in the UK.

In an emergency situation, the government will have 'wasted' loads of money in trying to secure ventilators that in the end weren't needed or couldn't be made to work as intended, buying any PPE from anywhere - some of which wasn't up to the task, buying options for vaccines that didn't get in the end get through the trials or couldn't be produced soon enough, all in a scramble against competition from around the world last spring.

Of course they could have followed the usual civil service routine by consulting widely, devising a specification, asking for competitive tenders, assessing the results and choosing suppliers who were by then too busy. The first face masks might be arriving about now...

Coming from Kent (Dover my home town first place I ever watched non league football) I feel for the club and also Maidstone and Tonbridge whose grounds i also visited frequently in my ground hopping days..It is very sad for the fans and credit to Mr Parmenter for taking action to protect his club knowing that this would ruffle feathers in the national league and open a can of worms.It is difficult to foresee outcome of one team not playing and others employing out of contract players in order to fulfill fixtures for free.The integrity of the league and results will not be relevant when there are still so many games to play.Whether we stay up hopefully the right way by our own efforts or as a result of multiple financial misfortunes of others I think it is a very sad day for non league football.

The trouble is (i`m being genuine !) BBC, SKY only tell us what they want for instance when the "black lives matter protests were going on they (the bbc) cropped a photo on twitter to minipulate it to look like something else! that`s the way everythings going now !

Surely it's either legal or illegal, you're either entitled to do it or you aren't. There are a lot of loopholes and rule-bending in the world of business, usually around taxation. Tough on some great players obviously but then again if better opportunities come along for them they will take it; as we have seen and to our great cost recently.

It has been explained several times (though it doesn't placate the conspiracy theorists) that the plan was to loan the surplus players to NL/NLN clubs. This went pear-shaped when finances of those clubs hit the buffers with meltdown over covid grants. The prospect of the season being curtailed meant all transfers/loans stopped.By then the signing of new players was already advanced and furloughing was the only answer.

Nonsense! The likelihood of being able to farm players out (and a lot of them) has been vastly reduced all season and hasn't just suddenly happened now. We knew perfectly well when we signed the new players that we were going to struggle to offload the existing players that Jolley didn't want.
