My choice for manager would be Peter Atherton as we know from his spell under Evatt that he will play a pleasing style of football and he has spent a year in league two so he knows what it’s all about will have seen lots of available players last season and will know the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition and knows many of the Barrow players from previously the only thing would be like Kelly he might prefer coaching but if he fancies it he could be the man to take us forward and be looking upwards at the league,the fact that he has no experience as a number one might put some off but we know he can get the best out of players from his previous spell as so many players developed under him and his Yorkshire grit would go down well with the fans if he became available

Every successful manager (and indeed unsuccessful one) has to start somewhere as an untried and untested rookie. Where did Evatt start his full time managerial career?! The point being that an experienced manager doesnt guarantee success and a rookie certainly doesn't guarantee failure.

The National League, which is fine, especially when it seemed more likely Barrow were headed to the NLN than the EFL.

Think after the season we've just had we need experience. We tried the rookie route and it almost cost us our place in the EFL.

True, no guarantees in life... But I feel the odds are better than another punt into the relatively unknown. We need to accept Evatt was a once in a decade (or more) 1st time manager.

Problem with Evatt is that he was the exception not the rule. A truly talented younger manager. To some extent we tried to recreate him when we appointed Dunn and Jolley.

Kelly showed what the Board should have, by then worked out. That for a club like ours in our position at this time, you cannot substitute youth and potential for experience. At least not without incurring a much higher risk.

Unfortunately if the club do learn their lesson then the choice of manager may not be as palatable as it might be for some in terms of the fans perception of him as a bloke or the similar thought of other teams fans. We should remember that if the likes of Cooper or Hill do end up with the job.

I just want a manager to take Barrow to the next level i.e. top half, pushing for play-offs. Think some of our number need to get a bit less picky on who they would be happy to see as manager. Someone like Mark Cooper has proven he can take a non-league side and get them to where Barrow want to be. If we only appoint a likeable lad who will come to the fanzone for a beer then you could end up disappointed.
