Harrogate v Barrow match thread

Last Season we lost 20 odd games by a single goal. This Season we've lost 2 games by a single goal. 0 points instead of at least 1, eventually adds up. Little defensive mistakes are hammer-blows, when we won't have Quigley's 15 - 20 goals at the other-end. No scoring bench except Sea. Can only see Brough and Kay scoring occasionally from mid-field. Consensus on this forum is that we need a goal-scoring midfielder and another striker. Seems not much has changed in last 12 months.

A not-fully-fit Zanzala has scored 2 in 3 (part-time) league appearances. That's a ratio of about 30 for the season. Why shouldn't he score 15/20?

If you read supporters' comments on the League Two forum about 75% of clubs are looking for reinforcements in attack, so it's not as simple as going out and getting one which some seem to think it is.

As others have said we looked like we had our finger on the pulse for around 60 mins one slip and they were back in it and from then on in they went into overdrive. Zanzala did well but has to stop getting silly yellow cards. Olly Banks our stand out player until they scored but like a few faded out of the game. An awful day weather wise but all is certainly not lost, this league is again proving from what I have seen there is very little between teams.
A special mention for the referee you were awful Kettle a home bird who gave us nothing but ultimately we were architects of our own downfall.

That is because Harrogate don't do electronic tickets Elaine, only printed ones and they were what our club had to sell. .....my ticket was scanned electronically on entry ???

You're right Mark but in defence of Zanzala, the lad ,(on the matches I've seen) gets little or no protection from referees !, plus he has the added pressure of being our only real goalscoring threat thus adding more pressure on the guy ! saying that both goals conceded where Conference north defending!

can’t believe some of what I’m reading. This team is MILES /ahead of last seasons. We will finish mid table no problem we have a decent league two team. Get a grip look where we are

Only just had time to read through most of this
For the people who wonder why there is more Carlisle discussion
Because there is no barrow interaction. I got 2 text messages from barrow fans and zero tweets

Pre match there are countless amounts of Carlisle fans getting involved in the show texting in opinions of team news tweeting their thoughts

If barrow fans aren’t getting involved in the show then physically other than the little bits where they come across to me what physically can I do?

I post the ways to get involved in the show
I put our appeals for supporters to come on the show
But people don’t come forward so literally there is little I can do about that

Bit of a rant yes but I’m fed up of constantly seeing the same moans and groans.

I don't think there were any Carlisle fan contributions while I listened to pre match yesterday (from about 14.20). From what I recall, it was a 3-way discussion about Carlisle team, players, tactics etc (and then white lines) involving James Philips, the co-presenter and (I assume) Paul Newton in the studio - all fully involved Carlisle fans*. Regarding yesterday, for example, we did not get the same 15-20 minutes discussion between you, your co-presenter and Paul Newton. about the Barrow team, players, tactics, analysis of the season so far, etc. No doubt they will do better on Tuesday night as they haven't got anything else!

* Even if Paul Newton is originally a West Ham fan he is based in Carlisle and presumably, even if he has not 'adopted' Carlisle, at least knows more about them than Barrow. It just comes across to me as a Carlisle-based programme with a Carlisle slant and IMO they should try to be more balanced.

Just read on Harrogate website that the gate was given as 1564. Now I didn't go round counting them but that is [SwearFilter]. I know the home numbers were shocking but surely they had more than that! Also read on a website giving figures for away support at all the EFL games and it said we had 350. We had already sold 400 before those who just turned up on the day of which I know there were quite a few. Massive tax fiddle by Harrogate here i think.

Maybe they didn't count the ones who weren't actually able to get into the ground!

I don't disagree that we need another striker, everyone knows this. What I'm getting at is that you said it was bizarre that we haven't recruited a proven goal scorer after Quigley left, almost as if it was an easy process to find and sign one. Cooper has mentioned many times that it's pointless signing anyone if they aren't going to improve your team. And as mentioned previously, the fact there are a number of League Two clubs in the market for one (have a listen to the Carlisle fans last night who have similar worries) shows that the market just isn't there at the moment.

For what it's worth, I think we look better up top than we did at any point last season.

Wrong: It did not takes us 3 months to record a win. After 2 months, by end of Oct. 2020, we had 2 wins & 5 draws. Facts don't lie.

Okay, the season didn't start til September - we had 2 wins by the middle of December, and we've already got half that number.

Do you think this side is better or worse?

Not a lot between them, IMO. Dixon is a better goalkeeper than Farman; Quigley is a better striker than any we've brought in although Zanzala is a decent replacement; Hutton is a good replacement for Brad Barry; Gordon is pretty nippy but doesn't seem to achieve all that much; Ellis is good in the air but has given 2 goals away by backing off because he's scared of being one on one with a forward as he's pretty slow. Not as good as Tom Davies IMO. The only significant area of improvement is midfield where White is significantly better than those who played last season plus Banks is playing well. Unless we get a decent goalscorer to play with Zanzala or Sea makes a dramatic improvement, I'd be surprised if we finish higher than the bottom 6 and will keep my fingers crossed that we're out of the relegation zone. We've now had 2 games against Exeter and Harrogate which should have been 6 points as neither side did anything against us but by a combination of a lack of fire power and in the Harrogate match terrible defensive mistakes we've ended up with 1 point. We'll play better teams than those 2 and will be in trouble if we can't win games where the oppoitin do next to nothing.

Bet my ticket wasn't counted. Bought mine at the kiosk when I got there. Went to the turnstile and the bar code on the ticket was not working properly so the guy asked me just to give him the ticket and let me in. He said it would be sorted later as there seemed to be a problem with their scanning devices. So i guess a few had that problem.
