Just bear in mind that if you arrive by train at Ipswich you will ( if wearing colours) almost certainly be encouraged by the local plod into the the Railway hotel across the way. That’s where they direct all away supporters on match days.

Away supporters are usually accommodated in the upper tier of the Cobbold stand at the corner of Potman Road closet to the station. Walk from station is only 5-10 minutes and ground is clearly visible as you leave the station.

I echo @Suffolk Blue the stadium is decent and right slap bang in the town centre! Usually the designated away pub is The Station Hotel, which predictably is right opposite the station and you can see the stadium from there.
If anyone fancies a meet up I can show you other away friendly pubs with a good vibe.
If you’re not wearing colours - go to Curve Bar - that’s where the atmosphere is!

Regarding trains yes it’s a lick out but driving is equally as long - suggest M6 - M62 - A1 - A14 rather than M6 - A14 - (where the sat nav would take u)

Worth the trip on over nighter too, plenty to do round these parts! X

Could the club could assess the demand and if sufficient then make enquiries into running a direct charter train?
Would probably need about 400 to make this viable.

The club didn’t sort the train to Carlisle.
I would guess there will be approximately zero chance of sorting a charter train to Ipswich baring in mind the logistics involved when we can’t even organise sending out a few tickets in the post

I shall have to work on being less predictable DB. Re: Ipswich pubs please avoid the Drum & Monkey at all costs. Shithole, bad beer and miserable home supporters.

Anyone travelling by car down the endless A14 might consider stopping at Bury St Edmunds for a beer. Lovely place, home of Greene King and Adnams and has the smallest pub in the UK the Nutshell. Anybody so inclined can also stop off at the village of Barrow just outside of BSE. There is a pub/ restaurant there. Not sure how good though. Lots of options.

Slightly off course though you can get from BiF to London (with a Railcard) for £79.05 on Avanti and probably less via TicketySplit. Get into the smoke for 11am and then nip to Liverpool Street on the tube, a single to/from Ipswich is currently £6.60 or £10.55 First Class on Greater Anglia. It is only an hour or so journey to Ippo and the same back. Last train out of Euston is at 19.30 thus back in Barrow at 11.30pm.

Railcards are so worth it if you are eligible, I suspect that Sea Dog Sam is!

I toyed with the idea of going on the Trust Bus but it'll take longer than the train. Also; I like to see some of the towns/cities we visit. The bus tends to stop off on the outskirts of places these days rather than the actual location. My first experience of this was when we visited Fylde a few seasons ago - having to sup our ales in a seedy Working Mens Club near Blackpool. It made the British Legion on HSt look relatively posh We didn't even make it to the WMC near Bradford - the driver got lost!

I also notice it's a 5am start on the bus to Ipswich
I've traveled on the bus to Nailsworth - for FGR and Taunton and Bristol for our FA Cup games and even those lengthy journeys didn't require a 5am start. Well, not that I can remember.

Can a Excutive Member of the Trust explain why we have to:
1) Stop on the outskirts of places we visit?
2) Set off at 5am for a destination which is nearer than Gloucestershire and Somerset? Ipswich is, Isn't it?
Or is the bus planning to rendezvous at some far flung dive for a supping session?
