I was surprised how delapodated Brunton park was after years of football league money pouring in. That's the problem with a team that has dropped like a stone, you end up with a ground that's way too big for your league position that ultimately generates little or no atmosphere, good job we all went to help rectify that.

Its as I say, there was another much bigger outlay on top of that initial loan from his company-which is family owned. If you want some more detail, have a word with a chap who goes by the name of 'Devo', he frequents the BeeHive watering hole most friday nights and always on matchdays-he knows the Story's very well indeed, he'll put you in the picture.
Its only a matter of time before the afforementioned family could well pull the plug. £6 million quid and rising. (not forgetting all the other accumuluting debts).
Listening to the recent interview with the Carlisle director, huge debt, stadium can’t be upgraded as its a flood risk etc, club are paying the players mortgages, they now also have to employ night guards due to break ins. Would rather be in our position any day,
Thats quite correct Bom.
Whichever way they turn the Brunton Park club as a whole is in a precarious position of the field. The ground is a major liability in terms of insurance etc and, they know if they sell it to re-develop, the clubs creditors will want their entitled share. So there is no way out for them really. As I say, its only a matter of time before they eventually will have to/or be glad to go down unless a major investor does come in. The one bright note for Carlisle is their attendances-thats what keeps them afloat, albeit, hand to mouth.

Both grounds are shitholes, and both teams have underperformed this season - though thankfully we’re getting it together under Simpson, and Barrow should be ok I think due to the other dross in the lower part of league 2.

But Mall, I can tell you now that your info about our debt is way off. Story literally wiped the debt when he stepped down, and has played no further part since - though there are rumblings of his interest being rekindled of late, and his relationship with Paul Simpson certainly adds a dimension to those rumours. It is 100% false to suggest we owe Big Fred a significant sum.

The debt the club owes is to Phillip Day, a billionaire who nearly took the reigns himself until covid hit and his business empire needed his full attention. The current owners (led by Andrew Jenkins) relied on Day for cash flow after AJ’s family convinced him (understandably) to stop spinning their potential inheritance. At the present the club owes Day somewhere in the vicinity of £2.5 million.

That might sound like a lot, but should Manchester United sell Henderson any time soon, our sell on clause will more than settle that debt.

Sorry Moonie-I can tell you now that they are pulling your wool over your eyes. You're clutching at straws looking for salvation because the club is up to its eyballs owing money everywhere.
The debt Story wiped out was indeed his own personal loan but, the family side of the other loan is still there and its only by the grace of that family that it hasnt been called back-yet.
Ask Mr Phillips. of RC.

To be fair Simpson is stirring things up there in Carlisle. Looks like he is keeping them up and the supporters are more than right behind him. Wether us Barrow fans like it or not they are way bigger than us and if top of league 2 average gates of 8-9 thousand would easily be attained with Simpson in charge. As for the debt as has been said a Henderson sale from Man united would pay that off easily.

Oh thats correct, Simpsons a good lad and the club is well supported, thats what keeps them going but the past always catches up and, with all the debts thay have incurred its only a matter of time.
If the Henderson money materialises it would soon be swallowed up and thier problems such as the ground, will still be there around their kneck. Good luck to them.

In other words, he's just a bloke who talks rubbish. One of these types who thinks he's in the know and some people are naive enough to believe him.

No, not at all. Its all there in black and white,he has all the relevant minutes from meetings. The debts will eventually force the club to sell and, thats where the danger lies.

All the relevant minutes are on the Trust website and the official CUFC website. Your man in the pub knows no more than any other fan.

Well, he's not my man in the pub, he's a man in the know-related to the Atkinson family who own land adjacent to Lanc'is Yard and were/are business partners with the Story's.
Its common knowledge about the massive debt owed to the family. The media up there are quite loyal to the club which keeps a lid on a lot of it.

Why is this debt not listed on Companies house then? The one to Mr Day appears to be along with other charges to a couple of banks

Respectfully, you’re one of the following:

1) a windup merchant

OR

2) absolutely off your rocker

OR

3) both of the above

The club’s accounts are a matter of public record. The supporters trust (of which I am a member) has a blocking share (25.4%, I think) in the club, together with a place on the board. There is absolutely no way in the great blue hell that a lid could be kept on such a debt. No way whatsoever. Your drunk mate from the beehive is spinning you a yarn.

Just read you’re now calling it a ‘personal debt’? Personal to who? The club is a limited company. I think you’re getting mixed up with the aforementioned debt to Phillip Day, which is secured by legally binding ‘personal guarantees’ from Jenkins and his cronies.
