Completely agree. 5 strikers(?) - Gordon, Zanzala, James, Holloway and Sea whose combined career goals are about 20 less than Rooney (a midfielder)! Other than Sea, You wouldn't even bother scouting these players with their records. You could make a case that Sea is a young player who might improve but the other 4 were never going to score more than a few goals. Whoever recommended signing these players was totally clueless.Sea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 1:57 pm Holloway?
What about Gordon, Zanzala and Sea? All utter SHI*E!
Google appearances/goals scored for their previous clubs. I did a few months back and posted on here.
You'll get a shock!
Who in their right mind would have brought any of them here based on their past goal scoring feats![]()
Somebody has to own up.
Be it Mark Cooper, Ogden (if he's still responsible for scouting/recruitment) or the BOD?
The reason we're going down is because of the aforementioned so called strikers!![]()
Why, oh why, didn't we sign a striker from the leagues below? A player with a track record of scoring goals and given him a chance to prove himself?Surely that would have made more sense?

Re: Holloway (striker)
The strikers- all of them, not just Holloway- have got to start giving us goals now. We need them to score in every game that is left. Without their goals we are down. Sorry to place the weight of expectation on them but that is their job- to score goals and they need to start giving something back.

Re: Holloway (striker)
We know we don’t have goal scoring forwards
We can go on and on about that forever
It’s time for the rest to step forward
Rooney is capable of scoring goals
Banks is our top scorer with 13
Set pieces - Platt and Canavan need to step up to the mark
Brough when he’s back from injury - he scored 6 last season and deservedly got the tag of “Cumbrian Carlos” this season he’s yet to score
If we are to stay up then everyone needs to come to the party
We can go on and on about that forever

Re: Holloway (striker)
No doubt about it Adam, but the reason we are where we are is because our strikers haven’t scored enough goals and not because Platt or Brough havent notched the occasional goal. I’m struggling to think of the most recent match winning goal by any of our recognised strikers.

That really made me laugh, “ we know we don’t have goal scoring forwards” then do your job, and say that to the manager, in your interviews.Adam29 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 10:19 pm We know we don’t have goal scoring forwards

I gotta say, I wouldn't have put it like that (bit disrespectful towards Adam), but I would like some uncomfortable questions or observations being put to the manager (and board if the opportunity arises).Desmond2-2 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 10:32 pm

Where I clearly ask - if you aren’t putting shots on target how do you expect to score goals

I think the manager knows that without Adam saying it m8, bit late for that with 6 games to goDesmond2-2 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 10:32 pmThat really made me laugh, “ we know we don’t have goal scoring forwards” then do your job, and say that to the manager, in your interviews.Adam29 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 10:19 pm We know we don’t have goal scoring forwards

Re: Holloway (striker)
I do think too many contributors to this forum are blaming "the strikers", but seems to me that it's a lot more involved than that. I've seen every game at how this year, and four away. I'd say that we simply don't create enough chances, it's not simply that "the strikers" are letting us down. It's a league where (as we all know) that defence and defensive tactics are far superior to attacking play, particularly at the bottom where we find ourselves.

Re: Holloway (striker)
Think anyone associated with league two football is aware our strikers don’t score goals. I think Phil Brown is a clown who should be nowhere near manager of our club but even so I think he will be aware that our strikers don’t score goalsDesmond2-2 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 10:32 pm That really made me laugh, “ we know we don’t have goal scoring forwards” then do your job, and say that to the manager, in your interviews.
Be a great bit of radio that won’t it
“Phil our strikers don’t score goals”
“Yes Adam I know, everyone knows”

Re: Holloway (striker)
We have created chances (pre last 6 games) Zanzala, Gordon have missed open goals, Gotts has missed good chances, The midfield yes Rooney might score but not the way we set up under Brown ,we'll never score a lot of goals our midfield sit too deep this is because our central defenders are too slow, when Cooper came one of his first comments were about set pieces and how much he excelled at this but we were quite the opposite, our delivery from set pieces is woeful either too long too short and nobody attacks the ball! How many player's do we get in the penalty area opposite defenders must love playing against us !
Taking all this under consideration NO WONDER we're where we are !
we needed a decent right back, mobile central defender ( we got someone who turns like a super tanker) a combative energetic midfielder, at least one pacey forward and at least one decent forward, if I and others can see this then what was Cooper, our scouts/ recruitment team doing?
