The first issue if it’s true and the Academy won’t go ahead is very bad for the towns young players and the clubs standing in the community.

I don’t think anyone thinks it’s going to start an Ajax type conveyor belt of talent but it would give players who want to play as high as they can throughout school age football the platform to do so. This would then surely produce a first team calibre player every now and then?

It shows real lack of effort on The clubs part to not have an academy on top of training elsewhere and having zero links to the town barring the board members…surely Barrowvians would turn up in greater numbers if there was more of a ‘home’ feeling to the club as a whole?

Secondly to try and sweep the whole thing under the rug and not come out to say why there will be no academy etc. is cowardly and again shows disdain for the locals involved in the youth set up of the club.

Fair point, well made. It was watching Procky, Burgess, Doc and Skiv etc. when I was a kid that was extra special. I think now in times of it all being more family orientated and on TV more etc. more locals would mean more fans but as I said you’re point is spot on.

I think youth30 is just a passionate angry parent. The key thing was they’re are u16s which means the next step would be u18’s u23’s or reserve football.

Or in other terms 16 lads paid full time.

If the club doesn’t deem them good enough they have every right to cut the squad. They’re at the end of the academy process.

This doesn’t mean the academy won’t happen.

Like the famous Ryan Yates chant “all we need is a team of Ryan Yates” he wasn’t local ( and no one cared) but one of the best loan players we’ve had, would ppl rather we beat Carlisle with 11 decent players, or lose 6-0 with local lads. Tom Beadling was born in Barra, and the poor lad doesn’t even have his own chant.

Do teams at our level need academies, personally don’t believe they do. Lads had been informed of possible positions, it was never a done deal so to speak, why should this impact on their upcoming exams ?You state, lads from away have turned down other clubs, because Barrow has the best set up, we don’t even have a set up, so these lads have obviously been poorly advised by parents/ coaches.

Lads may possibly have turned down apprenticeships etc on the back of promised academy places. I know Liam, Craig and the staff have been working extremely hard in setting this all up, getting education links etc sorted. Really disappointing if the club have pulled the plug on it

Youth 30 raises some good points as someone who is involved in local junior football the fact there is no gateway into barrow Afc is terrible,morcambe as a small club are miles ahead of us this respect remember you only have to unearth a couple of gems for instance like Carlisle in Branthwaite etc that down the line can cover the costs for years to come,and to the person that is more concerned about punctuation than the points raised then shame on you.obviously you have never seen any local junior football so how would you know what talent is out there on our doorstep .I have been to the morcambe academy and there is some good talent out there some of which comes from Furness

Some good points well made. Carlisle have a 15% sell on clause for Cumbrian born Man U keeper Dean Henderson now that alone could earn them a few million

Rumour is that everything is in place (education, lodging, facilities) ready to apply for a license to become a Cat 4 Academy but the board have pulled the plug at last minute, with no explanation to anyone, including their own Academy staff. 4 local lads & 3 or 4 lads from away had been verbally offered scholarships with the promise of a written offer as soon as the Academy was officially set up. I'm not surprised they're upset being told at this late stage, with no proper explanation given as to why it's been pulled. The club should at least act in a professional way in dealing with this, it's not too much to ask.
