That's all well and good reducing the squad size but cast your minds back to October when we had 8 players out injured and could barely raise a subs bench away at Port vale.
Players we might be interested in....

but take a long look ,lots of the player's we signed had long histories of injuries, we also had the farce of the training facilities which hindered our pre-season preparation which must of impacted on the player's physical condition all this and is it a surprise of why we had all those injuries?!Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 9:33 amThat's all well and good reducing the squad size but cast your minds back to October when we had 8 players out injured and could barely raise a subs bench away at Port vale.

This can’t happen next season; it was always an easy (and to be fair very valid) excuse for Cooper. As soon as the deal is done with Brown we need to get training facilities sorted and available from the first day of pre season right throughout the seasonblue nige wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 10:23 am but take a long look ,lots of the player's we signed had long histories of injuries, we also had the farce of the training facilities which hindered our pre-season preparation which must of impacted on the player's physical condition all this and is it a surprise of why we had all those injuries?!

I would hope that the training facilities for pre season and next season are already sorted.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 10:28 amThis can’t happen next season; it was always an easy (and to be fair very valid) excuse for Cooper. The deal needs to be done as soon as possible, and then immediately Brown needs to start attracting players, selling the club to them, if he hasn’t been doing that already.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 10:28 amThis can’t happen next season; it was always an easy (and to be fair very valid) excuse for Cooper. A settled, more than adequate training ground where the players feel comfortable is an absolute essential. And not in Barrow.

Phil Brown has said several times on the record he wants training in Barrow if (when) he takes over

In my opinion he is wrong about that, and hasn’t thought it through. I don’t know for certain, but I believe training takes place 4 days per week. There may be adjustments if there are Tuesday night matches, and/or cup games. Travelling on a regular basis, week in week out is exhausting. Realistically, to permanently train in Barrow, all players and staff will need to live within a reasonable distance of the town. That removes an enormous number of prospective players from the equation, who might have otherwise have signed. To expect them to go through the upheaval of moving house and e.g.moving a family, when on a short term contract, is unrealistic. The only alternative is to travel each day, there and back. Factor in the distance (in itself), fuel costs (whether paid for by the club or not), traffic problems, darkness, time in a car, bad weather etc., and the whole thing is thoroughly unattractive. Is there there an overwhelming benefit to training in Barrow, rather than e.g. Greater Manchester? Not that I can see at all, and we stand a better chance of attracting suitable players if they don’t have the burden of travelling excessive distances every week, or uprooting their home lives.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 2:03 pmPhil Brown has said several times on the record he wants training in Barrow if (when) he takes over

you're spot on if we push ahead and try to change things too much it'll be yet another decision our board regrets because Paul Hornby seems to have bought the idea !
Re: Players released by other clubs - who we might be interested in....
No, I don't think Paul Hornby has bought the idea. Paul mentioned something about meeting the idea of training in Barrow halfway-or words to that effect.

I also agree with the quality over quantity & PB should have loads of connections & getting a few loaners is bound to be on the table, not U-16 loaners but adult fringe 1st team blokesMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 9:33 amThat's all well and good reducing the squad size but cast your minds back to October when we had 8 players out injured and could barely raise a subs bench away at Port vale.

The term he used was a "hybrid" idea. Having a two base training set up, PH said that over a two week period it might mean a player spending an extra 3 or 4 days in Barrow

I completely agree, I’m not advocating it. Just saying that’s what Brown has said and we have to take him at his word……Hitthebar22 wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 3:20 pmIn my opinion he is wrong about that, and hasn’t thought it throughHenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 2:03 pm
