Re: Released/Retained
At the moment we have 18 players signed for next season another 2/3 should do us no need for a massive squad only means 6/7 go on loan somewhere in the Conference North/NPL
Re: Released/Retained
Not sure about your maths here. A matchday squad takes out 16 players (17 in August & January) so if we had a club squad of say 20/21 that doesn't leave a lot of cover for injuries and suspensions. Plus I presume we are running a B team so I'd say we need around 25/26 in the overall squad. (Then we can loan out those B team players who are not considered 1st team squad).behind the goals wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 5:09 pm At the moment we have 18 players signed for next season another 2/3 should do us no need for a massive squad only means 6/7 go on loan somewhere in the Conference North/NPL
Re: Released/Retained
Didn't we release 10 and offer 2 contracts so thats 12 (13 if you look at we have offered Ellis the GK role) and we have signed 5 and no news if Chester accepted offer so we are at least another 5 short for a reasonable size squad and more if we want to run a B team !
Re: Released/Retained
On the subject of the B team I think questions need answering. I may be wrong but I don't think last seasons fixtures were completed. The league itself is a bit of a shambles . I think most of the teams field academy sides who also compete in age-related leagues which take preference. As was proved last season this causes postponements and obviously scuppers the routine of teams like us.Add to the fact that we have only one of last seasons players remaining so we are going to have to start from scratch again. The idea is great in principle and I'm all for it. I've no doubt the new management have it in hand and will sort it out but I feel the whole structure and organisation of the league itself needs overhauling.

Think the B team will be gone unless it's a league requirement can see a Jason Taylor going to save on budget.SKIPPER wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 9:27 am On the subject of the B team I think questions need answering. Re: Released/Retained
Last Q&A responses were positive about the B team and suggested developing in the coming season.

B team is a waste of space, get rid. In reality if you’re not good enough to get in a league two side why are you not dropping down a level or two and getting game time. You won’t get anywhere playing other teams kids

Re: Released/Retained
I think the B team served its purpose as it was always intended as a hybrid. And I say that having watched it on a couple of occasions.
It was partly a means of assessing the young guys that we bought in especially for the purpose of development. But it also gave bench squad members from the previous EFL game some game time. How else will they get it?

Breaking news from the golf club by all accounts. But it’s not official until Jeff announces it though!

Re: Released/Retained
That's 7 more clubs he's had and only 24. Average 0.26 goals per game. My pulse isn't racing .
Re: Released/Retained
Doubt he'd drop down from Barnsley to us......even then most his goals came in the national league, bit of a one league wonder, would say he's found his level if he's bagging goals there but done nothing since.

In a twitter poll 90% of Oldham fans that voted said they'd prefer to send him back to parent club over keeping him
Re: Released/Retained
We have to wait but no one who has come in looks as good as Ben Whitfield who did not seem to get a fair crack if the whip under Wild and when he did was played out of position_bluebird_ wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 10:09 amIn a twitter poll 90% of Oldham fans that voted said they'd prefer to send him back to parent club over keeping him
