Luke Daniels new goalkeeping coach

Barrow AFC are pleased to announce that former Premier League Goalkeeper, Luke Daniels has joined the club as our new Goalkeeper Coach.

Daniels announced earlier this week on his social media channels that after a successful 20-year playing career, he was ready to hang up his gloves and move on to the next chapter of his career, so we’re delighted to welcome him to the Barrow coaching team.

The former England youth international came through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion’s academy where he signed his first professional deal with the club in 2006.

During his nine-year stint at The Hawthorns, the 36-year-old went on several successful loan spells with his best form coming during his time at Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers.

After over seven years with the Baggies, Daniels finally made his Premier League debut in 2013 when he came off the bench to replace an injured Ben Foster against Everton and he managed to keep a clean sheet during a 0-0 draw.

Following his success in that match, he was promoted to the starting lineup for the Baggies League Cup campaign where he kept a clean sheet against Newport County.

After nine years in the Midlands, Daniels moved to Scunthorpe United where he made over 100 appearances for The Irons in just two and a half years before moving to Brentford where he stayed for the next four years.

During his time at Griffin Park, Daniels mainly played backup to David Reya and Dan Bentley. Regardless, he had a particularly successful campaign as the Bees’ starting keeper during their League Cup run in the 2020/2021 season when the then Championship side made it all the way to the semi-final, eventually losing out to Tottenham Hotspur. However, Daniels was named the goalkeeper of the tournament after a tremendous individual campaign.

Following a four-year spell in West London, Daniels made the move to Middlesbrough where he spent two seasons on Teesside before moving to Forest Green Rovers last campaign where he played 19 matches.

And that concluded what was a very successful playing career, so we’re delighted to welcome Luke to the Barrow AFC.
