There is no need to have to call in the station its not R5 606
But that is the point
The post match show IS that kind of show.
We have just spent 90mins commentating on the game and giving our opinion on how it has gone - the point of that last bit of the show isn’t for me and my summariser to spend 10/15minutes saying the exact same things again - it is to react to what the listeners/viewers thought of the game - so therefore does need audience interaction.
I’m with Adam on this. Many on this forum simply don’t seem to want an RC or at least one as is currently constituted. Using the relative size of football clubs as an argument for this is simply a ruse. I’ve rarely come across such bile spouted about a BBC radio network where people would rather declare some form of virtual UDI rather than get involved and make it more balanced by doing so. I even class myself in that despite living for most of the time 250 miles away.
As far as I can see there is no prospect of there being a locally based radio franchise in the near future so if you want your voice heard you need to use what’s available.
As for yesterday I did listen to the post match coverage driving back. There is definitely an imbalance in coverage. I won’t say bias and it’s not dramatic. But RC has a tendency to slip into it. It’s probably not even seen as such in the north of the county but is picked up in every nuance in the south.
Two examples of that yesterday. Firstly, the conveyance of a view that a Carlisle defeat was more worthy of coverage than a Barrow win given the amount of time spent dwelling on it.
Secondly, dear old James has this tendency in his broadcasting to get very passionate in his choice of words. The way in which he described the consequences for “Simmo” of losing to Barrow next week, were frankly a bit over the top and overly dramatic. No doubt he would say it was a statement intended to reference Carlisle’s plight rather than any dig at Barrow, but I’m pretty sure he would not have chosen those words if the next game was Bradford or MK Dons. These are not massive errors but they are immediately picked up at the other end of the county and re-enforce views.
But beyond that it really is up to Bluebirds supporters to make the best of what we have. The BBC like many other institutions operates to a set of principles and guidelines that are immutable. However there is room within these for groups of people to make their views known and simply staying away from RC or not engaging with it actually conveys a message that people from Barrow don’t give a toss.
