I’d still argue that clubs in the same league deserve equal billing, from a professionalism point of view if nothing else. Even down to - and I know this sounds petty - the strapline of RC being the ‘home of Carlisle and Barrow’ (or whatever it is); if teams are in the same league, you’d think it’d be done alphabetically! I know that sounds daft but it’s all part of the problem.
The problem stems from us being out of the league fior 48 years and now competing in a league with Carlisle who which ever way you look at it are a much bigger club than us.
As I see it if supporters want more coverage from Radio Cumbria they have the power to do that. The problem is many lack the wherewithal to get involved in the post match debate but are happy to slam and insult the station on here. The ball is firmly in the court of Barrow supporters if they want it to improve imo

Why???
Are we all of a sudden going to try and bombard them with messages to try and get more air time? Doesn’t work like that. If they start making it a fair share then over time people may interact more. At the moment everyone knows who they prefer so people won’t bother. If RC genuinely want it to be equal as a news/journolistic outlet they have to show impartiality within the county.
They don’t care so won’t.

There is no need to have to call in the station its not R5 606.
Radio Cumbria do lots of news items on both teams .
I could understand if Carlisle were a Premier League Side but they are not.

We are both in the same league .

The argument that Carlisle are a bigger club is no reason to give them a larger share of programmes.
The fact that they have had a poor start i can see speculation on Simpsons future will lead to more media interest.
The BBC is a public owned broadcasting company and as such we should get equal coverage.

The Barrow Fans don't phone in is a red herring.

But that is the point

The post match show IS that kind of show.

We have just spent 90mins commentating on the game and giving our opinion on how it has gone - the point of that last bit of the show isn’t for me and my summariser to spend 10/15minutes saying the exact same things again - it is to react to what the listeners/viewers thought of the game - so therefore does need audience interaction.

Very often the post match tho is dominated with Philips the other guy having a debate with the studio about carlisle. They often don't even get to read out views from the fans.

Adam does a great job. To blame the listener for lack parity when most of the post match is the anchor Philips and the other guy talking isn't right. Maybe they need someone with a Barrow bent in the studio

I have to disagree. The txts and tweets start to come in from Carlisle fans immediately after the final whistle giving the Carlisle commentators plenty to discuss. They say it after every game with the words" reaction coming in already from Carlisle fans" and then proceed to read through them. Alas Adam does not get the same reaction from Barrow fans giving him very little to discuss other than his interview with the Barrow head coach.
Like Adam has already said its up to the Barrow fans to get involved on a Saturday after the game rather than sniping about it on here.

The problem I have as regards texting RC is that I`m driving home and don`t always get home in time to comment on the game. As far as the game panned out didn`t think it was a bad game at all. Defence did ok, Feely had a wobble near the end, nearly getting caught in possession , but otherwise had a good game, good energy in midfield and forwards linked up well. The only real downside for me was that we still don`t break quick enough turning defence into attack, shades of last season.

The radio C programme almost always starts off after the news talking about Carlisle. The Carlisle trio were doing a bit of a post mortem yesterday, while in contrast when they went to Adam we got a more brief match report.

The audience interaction thing is a red herring. There isn't much participation form Workington or Penrith fans, but yesterday we had to sit through Simpson's lugubrious thoughts, followed by the Workington manager, followed by the Penrith manager, before we finally heard from Stephen Clemence at 5.40.

And finally, the comment from someone (Phillips?) at the end of the initial post mortem that "if we play like that we should beat Barrow" was condescending and arrogant. It might be ok to say in January or February if Carlisle were doing well and playing a struggling team, but not on the first day of the seaon - especially when Barrow have won and Carlisle got stuffed!

The reason you had to sit through Simpson then Workington and Penrith was that during Simpsons interview Stephen Clemence came to Adam for his interview. That resulted in Adam having to record his interview with Clemence then upload it into Radio Cumbria so they could then play it. They couldn't play it until they had it and the time Adams interview took and him getting it to Radio Cumbria was used to do interviews with both Workington and Penrith bosses. It also allowed both Adam and Jason to discuss Clemences thoughts as all other match interview IE Penrith and Workington had been completed.

I’m with Adam on this. Many on this forum simply don’t seem to want an RC or at least one as is currently constituted. Using the relative size of football clubs as an argument for this is simply a ruse. I’ve rarely come across such bile spouted about a BBC radio network where people would rather declare some form of virtual UDI rather than get involved and make it more balanced by doing so. I even class myself in that despite living for most of the time 250 miles away.

As far as I can see there is no prospect of there being a locally based radio franchise in the near future so if you want your voice heard you need to use what’s available.

As for yesterday I did listen to the post match coverage driving back. There is definitely an imbalance in coverage. I won’t say bias and it’s not dramatic. But RC has a tendency to slip into it. It’s probably not even seen as such in the north of the county but is picked up in every nuance in the south.

Two examples of that yesterday. Firstly, the conveyance of a view that a Carlisle defeat was more worthy of coverage than a Barrow win given the amount of time spent dwelling on it.

Secondly, dear old James has this tendency in his broadcasting to get very passionate in his choice of words. The way in which he described the consequences for “Simmo” of losing to Barrow next week, were frankly a bit over the top and overly dramatic. No doubt he would say it was a statement intended to reference Carlisle’s plight rather than any dig at Barrow, but I’m pretty sure he would not have chosen those words if the next game was Bradford or MK Dons. These are not massive errors but they are immediately picked up at the other end of the county and re-enforce views.

But beyond that it really is up to Bluebirds supporters to make the best of what we have. The BBC like many other institutions operates to a set of principles and guidelines that are immutable. However there is room within these for groups of people to make their views known and simply staying away from RC or not engaging with it actually conveys a message that people from Barrow don’t give a toss.

Good win. I thought we were solid and didn’t look like conceding. Not sure we ever looked like scoring the second either. 3 points does the job though.

Lots of good after match discussions in the local pubs I was in. Maybe the post match show should be hosted from the ambrose or soccer bar if you want interaction??

Did strike me as being a bit strange Phillips saying if Carlisle play like that next week they should beat Barrow.
After Carlisle had just been hammered 4-1 and we’d actually won our game. 😆

I thought I might make an observation about the game rather than all this drivel about Radio Cumbria.
It was a hard working , organised display with lots of effort.
However I would be very worried about our forward play if Aquah doesn't improve significantly.
I like the guy but he was slow yesterday , not first to the ball, not holding it up and bringing others into the game, not quick enough to make runs beyond the defence, not great in the air and no goal threat. Trouble is Dallas and Telford don't have those attributes either. Not sure what the answer is but we need to find a centre forward with at least some of those attributes

Was mentioned in an earlier post that most of the hard core Barrow supporters will be driving/walking home after a match or back in the pub, not activities conducive to texting or calling in to RC. It could be that our friends in the North have more armchair supporters ready to impart their wisdom at full time. It has also been stated previously that a bad performance generates more feedback than a good one and there my friends you have it.

Incidentally l caught a bit of RC coverage at half-time yesterday where the Carlisle guy said something along the lines of '...despite Carlise being one down, l can't see any other outcome other than a Carlisle victory here today'. You'd think he would have learnt by now.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
