Ive lost count the number of times he has one won us points with his fantastic goalkeeping. Just last week at Harrogate for instance in the final minutes.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 8:15 amFarman was closer to our bench than he was to his own goal. Why on earth was he out so far when we were up 1-0? Goalie arrogance and disrespect of the opponents likely cost us 2 points.

Re: Swindon Town
Genuinely can't believe some of the shouts here. Paul Farman has been brilliant but today a howler, definite red, that's football. SC made a call on a sub keeper that came back to bite us but Rory Feeley did as good a job as he could.
A superb goal by Garner and buckets of effort and skill from the whole squad in a tight, tough situation which was loudly backed by the crowd. Kick in the guts at the end but great entertainment, excitement and passion. We've got a team to be proud of at the moment.

Farman blundered yesterday being way too far out of his goals - we're not talking about his great saves last week.

Re: Swindon Town
Had a debate in the bar afterwards - if their player had scored trying to chip Farman he wouldn’t have been sent off. That’s the rules. So would we have been in a better position to win the match going in at half time drawing but with 11 players on the pitch ?

Always have a keeper on the bench I agree.will3988 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 5:45 pm Absolutely unbelievable effort from every player today on that pitch we didn’t deserve that, but there’s never any excuse for not having a keeper on the bench and saying I’d rather have more options outfield. You can’t tell me that those 5 players can’t change a game from any position, but the 1 that matters is the keeper, it might happen once/twice a season where a keeper gets sent off or injured, but it’s cost us points today Stanway must be thinking what is the point of me being here! Clemence has done nothing wrong at all great addition breath of fresh air but I will never understand a mangers decision to not have a keeper on the bench

Agree Dallas work rate nowhere near good enough for the situation Barrow were in.Mark Johnson wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 5:46 pmNot surprised. Very little effort from him too when he came on. Was just drifting. If he’s not match fit, why not bring Telford on
Very frustrating because all of our efforts were undone by the fact we couldn’t hold on to the ball for just a few seconds with our only real opportunity to do so

Re: Swindon Town
Give the lad a break he came on with 10 minutes to go and offers more pace than Telford but was up against a Man mountain in Delaney. FWIW Dallas had a decent game in midweek against Bolton and ran his socks off.32mile_cul-de-sac wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:20 amAgree Dallas work rate nowhere near good enough for the situation Barrow were in.Mark Johnson wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 5:46 pm

'Only' 6 subs? Whether it's 6 or 7, it gives you the luxury of naming a substitute keeper. The 'rationale' was that he wanted cover for all the outfield positions - but it's far easier for an outfield player to cover for another outfield player, even if a different position, than it is for an outfield player to cover for a goalkeeper.
Retrospect is a wonderful thing, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt uncomfortable about this before the match started.
Re: Swindon Town
Regarding the last minute corner, it was a complete waste. I don't agree with trying to keep the ball in in the corner in such circumstances - it only saves you a few seconds at best. Far better to whack it into the penalty area and give yourself a chance of putting the game to bed at 2-0.
I am sure there will be others on this forum who remember Don Rogers' last minute equaliser for Swindon back in 1967!

Re: Swindon Town
His "rationale" also included the fact that last season only 8 times was a substitute goalkeeper used in EFL2. That's not very many when you take into account how many games are played over a season.xerxes wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:33 am'Only' 6 subs? Re: Swindon Town
Well. Sod's Law rules were certainly applied to yesterday's game in liberal measures. There must be a ratio between the number of games a football team plays and the likelihood that at some point everything goes Pete Tong bonkers.
In retrospect you might say that some of the fate factors were there. No sub keeper, a first choice keeper that most on this forum (quite rightly) have been building a shrine to so far this season; a referee playing in his first competitive season and looking at times like a lost boy trying to find his dad who was running the line, and an opposition manager who on camera after the game admits that when faced with an heroic irishman who'd never played in goal competitively before effectively ordered his team not to shoot on sight. Perhaps in retrospect we should have expected something like this at some point.
Most of us will rue Farman's action (quite rightly). But for me the game will be defined by what happened after he left, Perhaps I'm looking at this through rose tinted glasses. But I think Clemence will be immensely proud of his team after the dismissal and will have seen a side of his squad that you very rarely get to see. Their goal coming so late deflated the story book ending and may have clouded a few comments on the forum but that was a hell of rearguard effort. Dont care who you are in this Division if you replace your keeper with an outfield player for a hour in a competitive game you should lose and maybe badly. The fact that Harry "bye-bye" Smith decided to even up things did not mean that they lost their advantage because he unlike Farman could be replaced by an equivalent.
If you've not seen them I would heartily recommend watching Mark Kennedy's comments after the game. Swindon town fans who weren't happy bunnies with the outcome of the game went ballistic after his post match analysis. Badly thought through bulls**t. Also, listen to the guy interviewing him desperately trying to get Kennedy to accept that what Swindon came away did not represent some type of triumph.

Re: Swindon Town
Have to echo the comments in support of Wyll Stanway against some of the frankly derogatory jibes made by previous posters who i would ask 'based on what? ' The only full 90 minutes he has played have been in PSF's and mickey mouse cups usually with a cobbled together makeshift defence in front of him.I saw him play several games for Chester last season and have spoken to several fans who rate him as their best ever keeper even going back to their League days. One incident in the Bolton game sticks out for me. Sprinting Farman-like out to the wing for a loose ball the Bolton player beat him to it and set sail for goal. He instantly sprinted back got ahead of the player and down to block his shot/cross. That to me showed talent.Unfortunately there will always be the anti-local minority trying to make their voices heard but I think he is level-headed enough to overcome that. With two experienced keepers behind him he can only improve in time.

Garbage I've seen loads of teams take it there and get throw in after throw in ,it's about confidence and composure which Dallas had none in this instance, am I being unfair no he's a professional football from league 1.he wasn't being asked to beat 10 playersxerxes wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 9:38 am Regarding the last minute corner, it was a complete waste. That was his first competitive match in the Football League.
The Sky commentator said he’d had a good game.
