I'd be surprised if the current team without those 2 would win another match. We're already struggling to win a match with them and together with Jackson, Vassell and Canavan, they are the only players we have up to decent EFL 2 level. Without them we'd have a non-existent midfield as well as a non-existent attack. If - and it's a big if - we'd get 200k in January for players out of contact a few months later, we might be able to replace them. However, based on the latest recruitment efforts, it's far from certain we'd replace them with any players near their level.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 6:53 pm The negativity on this forum seems to reaching an all time high. So if the club sell Spence and or Campbell we will be relegated? Even if we manage to get a couple of hundred k for them and reinvest?Doesn’t matter apparently. We are done for without them. Either now or at the end of the season. Fact, it seems to some.
What a load of absolute tosh. I pride myself on being a bit of a pessimist ( or realist as I would see things). But even I can’t get anywhere near as dismal and depressive as some of the comments above. Just get a grip.

Correct. Nobody wants to see us go down or gloat about being correct. However, some of us can see the danger sifgns!blue nige wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 7:20 pmYou are deluded if you think we'll be OK if we lose two of our best player's and it'll be OK, what is that philosophy based on it's the equivalent of buying a lottery ticket thinking you'll win the jackpot!Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 7:05 pm
Unfortunately it appears some forum members would love us to fail so they can gloat "I told you so" Players come and go and get replaced by others. There are many many clubs this season n in league 2 that are worse than us although I do believe that with Stockport, Wrexham and Mansfield going up last season the league is poorer for it this season.
As for January I do believe that if bids come in for one or two of our out of contract better players and they are willing to move on they will for a fee. The last 2 seasons have seen us lose two of our better players for nothing in Patrick Brough and Ben Whitfield so it would make a change to get a decent fee for a player.
Weston gone Etoluko gone and Worrall out on loan I suspect the decks are being cleared to bring a few in during January.
Whilst we might have a lot of possession, we're creating NOTHING, this can't go on ,Yes we have a 9 point cushion but all team's at the bottom will play each other, we've lost to 3 of them, I can't personally relax on the basis we're too good to go down and No I don't want Barrow to go down and neither does anyone else no matter what the great philosopher BINGO states !
Whitfield is missed Massively and hasn't been anywhere near replaced !,Spence although no where near last seasons player is still streets better than what we have attack wise !
Re: January Signings?
Was chatting with some Wrexham fans over the weekend when the January window came up. They are seriously expecting 'statement' signings to cement their promotion push and expect players to move on in return. They threw in three names in particular all of an attacking 'bent'.
Sam Dalby - Down the pecking order behind Mullin,Palmer et al he is on loan at Dundee Utd until January and is currently joint top scorer in the SPL - incidentally aided and abetted by Luca Stephenson clearly played in the wrong position by us.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson - Former Iceland international (played in the team that beat England in the 2016 Euros). Over 400 games in the EFL,none below L1,he was released by Bolton at the end of last season. After a short spell back in Iceland he joined Wrexham as a free agent but has so far only made a couple of substitute appearances. Some think he was only signed as a standby for injuries and will be released in Jan when his short term contract ends.
I'll don my tin hat before mentioning the third. Billy Waters their surprise signing in last years window. Not accepted by the fans and given scant opportunities to show what he is capable of. Now back at Halifax on loan until Jan. Another expected to be paid up in the re-shuffle.

Re: January Signings?
Doesn’t seem to matter Skip who we might recruit. Apparently if Spence and Campbell go we won’t win another match.
Re: January Signings?
A January sale of a player will only come about if a club has a gap to fill and the money to fill it.
If they are looking for a player to improve their squad, a club is more likely to await the summer and use the money saved to make an improved contract offer to the player.
Luke Armstrong - surprised Carlisle signed him. I wonder if he has improved squad cohesion there.
A couple of thoughts about last season: firstly, it could be argued that the reason we didn't make the play offs was simply the astonishing defensive collapse at Doncaster.
Secondly, our Goals For (and Goals Against, for that matter) last season were better than the team beneath us, a team with the division's current top scorer.

We need to keep these two and bring in one decent forward and midfield player.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 5:08 pmIf we lose Campbell and Spence and we'll certainly be relegated.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 2:35 pm
Me too. If one or two of those out of contract in the summer have indicated they wont sign a new contract better to sell them in January if they are willing to go rather than them going for nothing in the summer.. Im thinking Cambell, Spence or Robbie Gotts.
The money we would get in January would pale into insignificance if we were relegated

A sell on clause we would be getting back in the National LeagueMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 4:34 pmIIRC one of Pete Wilds remits was to sign young hungry players improve them and then sell them on. The owners have pumped hundreds of thousands into the club and the Chelsea game aside have recouped very little. They may want a return on a player they have invested in IE salary One safeguard about selling a player In January is that you can negotiate a sell on clause should that player improve again and attract championship or premier league interest and go for a fee.blue nige wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 4:17 pm
Then let no more than 1 go , we'd have no chance of recruiting anyone of their calibre unless we pay a lot of money so they're would have to be a lot of wheeling and dealing in such a short period of time!
To be honest I'm really disappointed we're in this debate it was obvious to everyone we'd be short of a decent target man ,and be short in central midfield ( we even let Foley go then had to re sign him) unbelievable![]()

I've been told more than once that we might be trying Harrison Armstrong for Everton in January. He came on for the first team last night but I have no bloody idea what Everton might do next in any given situation.

Re: January Signings?
So it's looking like a final throw of the dice for us come January before we embark on a 16-week, high-anxiety game of snakes and ladders.
Dull it aint!

We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
Re: January Signings?
Impressed with Ethan Ellis of Man United who I saw recently dismantled Altrincham with a hat trick. Needs to now go out on loan a left sided winger/forward who scores goals. Physically pretty strong which he would need to be in L2. Put Kayoute through the middle and we would have two very quick forwards to ask questions of any defence. Thing is Clemence believes in the horrible 4-2-3-1 system like Man Utd Ten Hag teams so you never score many goals playing that way so if we continue that way the idea of fast breaking forwards is not going to work.
Re: January Signings?
I wouldn't rule that out given that Armstrong cannot get into the Carlisle team and according to Radio Cumbria wasn't in the squad for Carlisle's game last SaturdayMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 5:03 pmConn Clarke is listed as an attacking midfielder who can score goals.McMark wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 4:58 pm Like to see two Strikers in at leastChris Conn-Clarke hasn’t made the breakthrough since moving to Peterborough in the summer so they might allow a loan. Only seen Linney a couple of times and he impressed me, he definitely won’t come cheaply though as Alty still have aspirations of play offs. Attacking midfielder hopefully the rest falls into place. Not wholesale changes but tweaks where needed.
How about a cheeky request to our Cumbrian colleagues to bring Luke Armstrong in on loan as he currently appears out of favour

Re: January Signings?
The top 4 goalscorers in the Premier League - Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs - all play 4-2-3-1 although you could argue Arsenal don't play with a 1 up top as Havertz doesn't really play as a conventional striker and they all have good enough players to be able to change systems if needed.andyg wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 6:42 pm Impressed with Ethan Ellis of Man United who I saw recently dismantled Altrincham with a hat trick. I'd be very surprised if Luke Armstrong is allowed to go on loan in January.
We've got Charlie Wyke out for the season and Georgie Kelly is very injury prone.
Would be insanity to let another striker go out on loan.
He might have been dropped last week, but I get the impression Williamson still rates him.
Barrow will have to look elsewhere, Steven Rigg at Workington is having a belting season and would maybe consider signing on at Holker Street.
