Wouldn't like to be sat next to either of them on the coach, but if they want to support the Barrow - semper sursum!

IIRC there are only two players who we have renegotiated contracts early since we came back into the league. Those being Canavan earlier this season and Robbie Gotts during his time under Pete Wild. Some have waited until the season has ended such as Paul Farman last season signing on for another year.Jonty wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 12:25 pm Every player acquisition presents a balanced risk. We need experienced campaigners in key areas who have been there and can lead on the pitch. These players don’t present realistic sell on opportunities but we need them. ie- Canavan, Farman. We also need to protect the interests of the club with younger prospects who may get the platform with us in League 2 and become saleable assets. That presents the 2 or 3 year contract dilemma. 2 years- they can walk away for free. 3 year contract and after 2 they are either going to be on the radar of a transfer move, or they haven't really developed, but we have them for another season, or clubs will keep them on the radar until they see out the contract and become free agents. That’s why I think it’s always important for the club to try and renegotiate terms with players who are consistently performing at the club, just to at least ensure that a transfer fee is required.
There’s so much potential talent released by top flight Academies who just need that chance at “mens football” that’s where we may pick up a diamond. There and prospects from the National Leagues. All clubs are fishing in the same pond so we need to sell the club well.
Paul Farman never waited for the season to end. He triggered an extension to his contract last January along with Newby & Canovan. Guess it was based on appearancesMain Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 1:02 pmIIRC there are only two players who we have renegotiated contracts early since we came back into the league. The players and agents hold all the cards these days and for a club like us it's difficult. Im unsure what the record fee is that we have received for a player but im not sure we have ever received £100k for any player but these days with undisclosed fees it's hard to keep track.
Sounds amazing and would be even more amazing if it were to happen!Wintergreen wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 5:07 pm After watching Paul Hornby’s recent interviews, I was reminded of this brief encounter from last year. From time to time I meet a guy in the Holker End who I’ve known for donkey’s years. We usually have a brief chat about affaires d’AFC and occasionally he will offer a snippet for me to keep to myself. These snippets in the past have included both the arrival and departure of Paul Casson, telling me to bet on us winning the Covid league, the departure of Ian Evatt, a roof for the HSE, the arrival of Dom Telford and a few more. At first I would reply to these fanciful predictions with a blunt ‘No chance’ or ‘You’re having a laugh’ but time would always prove him right. Towards the end of last season, one exchange went as follows:
“Keep this to yerself - the owners are looking at plans to build a hotel along the Pop Side, curving right round to the Steelworks End. It is to help make the club more sustainable for the future”.
Once again I was both intrigued and amused; of all the bombshells he had previously dropped this one seemed the most outrageous. Only time will tell with this one of course, but I know this integrated hotel configuration is working at Blackpool, Bolton and a few other clubs now so maybe this is also feasible at Barrow? BAE are attracting hundreds of specialists, contract personnel, service providers, consultants, company reps, Government people, MoD people, Navy people, Russian spies etc. and where better to stay than right on the A590? The club seems to have good relations with BAE so maybe it will be a case of build it and they will come?
The strip bar is on the top floor of hotel next to the revolving restaurant which has panoramic views of the Ormsgill reservoir and the railway linesolbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 6:30 pmBit disappointed, thought they were opening a strip bar but I will take ground development![]()
