If this is the same one, I watched Ben Winterbottom a couple of times last season at Fylde. He was highly thought of in a team that wasn’t. He caught my eye.

If this were true it would be quite interesting as I don’t think he would be classed as being that far behind young Wyll. And he’d need games. He’s clearly developed quite a bit at Fylde but that’s because he’s had plenty of practice! Released by parent club Brentford at the end of the season. Now a free agent.

Oh and I think he picked up 7 yellow cards last season. That’s some going for a keeper.

Season before he joined us Wyll picked up a suspension at Chester for five time-wasting yellow cards. Part of a goalkeepers armoury these days though they'll have to be careful now with the new six-second rule and jobsworth refs.

Unlike some of the IDK's on here I can't claim to have a clue about the clubs finances and potential budgets. What is a fact is the wages of the players we have released and those who have turned down offers added together must comfortably come to five figures a week. This saving
must surely give us a bit of wriggle room to go for a couple of statement signings to whet the fans appetite for the season ahead.

Happens every season Skip. Doesn’t matter how old we are we still hanker after the ‘golden nugget’ of a juicy signing. Only to be disappointed that it never comes.

Then the reality of our limitations hits home as we realise that we’ve been shopping in that good quality second hand store again where the goods are marked “slightly damaged”.

I’m sure the club is doing what it can to get value for its money. The last one to send a shiver of anticipation down our collective spine was Dom Telford and look how that turned out.

We also do some of our best business when the other 23 clubs are not looking. Even if we have freed up cash to spend it’s still sometimes very difficult to spend it when we are competing with others for the same assets at the same time.

And lastly we always compare what’s coming in with those well developed players leaving. Feels a bit like we are being short changed and having to start all over again. Which of course is the reality when you are fixed in a two year cycle. Fortunately however we are pretty good in dealing with these realities.
