Newby is too weak in the tackle he's a winger/ wide player but defensively leaves a lot to be desired!
Agreed. Cost us too many times in that position with weak or non-existent challenges and poor positioning. He's never a wingback and to be honest should be no more than a squad player, if he's a regular this season again I'd be worried. We've spent too long trying players like him and Stephenson before that as wingbacks, it's a specialist position and you can't just throw a midfielder there and expect them to do a job.
I agree with both of you. Newby is weak and a squad player at best and, hopefully, Worrell sticks to coaching and is not being considered for a regular place as the same applies to him plus Kouyate would struggle to make the Holker OB team! On the positive side, Hemmings looked decent as did Raglan and Harper really does look like a footballer and it looks like we have 2 decent goalkeepers.

The optimist in me tells me there's a player in kouyate with the right coaching. Early last season he had defenders on strings but absolutely no end product. Wether it's coaching or a loan I wouldn't fully right him off despite popular opinion

Acquah was, of course, still contracted and sold.

Ah, yes. Stephenson, who started at right CB for Liverpool at Preston on Sunday.

Stephenson played CB at Preston as a stopgap because of injuries to regulars. He had a highly succesful loan spell at Dundee Utd last season as an attacking midfielder so much so that they are trying to sign him permanently.

Personally I'd send him on loan until January, get game experience in week in week out and see if there really is a player there. Ten minutes here and there won't do him any good at all IMO

Really don’t understand the love for Hemmings. Not sure what he would add. Would rather have a loanee if we have not got someone lined up
Spoke to a Tranmere fan today that just said NO NO NO NO.

I think the "love" for Hemmings from some folk is born out of them being desperate for us to sign a striker. Six weeks of the window to go yet two weeks until the start of the season. Plenty of time.

I was at the friendly, and he had a few good touches and occasional flick ons, I thought he looked slow and unfit

Totally agree with the last 2 posts.
We don’t have a lot of money but better than Hemmings without a doubt. Got Walker and Cameron just need another hungry want to prove the world wrong striker.
Not opposed to Tyler Smith if he comes as I think we need someone who stands on the penalty spot and poaches goals or someone like that.

I thought Walker did very little against either Huddersfield or Bolton.

It’s only pre season so too early to judge Walker. In seasons gone by we had garner scoring 2 3 a game in preseason against the dog and duck
