We'd have been in the bottom two by the end of January and the window would have closed - giving a new manager no chance to bring in new players. Anyway Wood may have taken the job by then - may as well - he does most other things at the club!

Would take McDonald for the time being - use that experience to get us stabilised and try for a solid mid-table finish. Beyond that, we are not an attractive proposition for a lot of managers - we’re small in terms of both stature and fanbase, we’re miles from anywhere, and we’re starting to look like a sacking club. I also don’t subscribe to the ‘all the players are rubbish’ thing - we’ve got some good ones and some less good, but we have neither the money nor the draw to get the ones some people think we should have. We need someone who can turn a decent squad into a good one and keep us consistently safe of that bottom third. That - for now at least - will do.

I'm afraid there's nothing in McDonald's history that suggests he's not a rather poor manager but let's hope he can bring an initial improvement in results.

Longer term Jon Brady or Steve Evans would be good choices, but, as others have written, can they be persuaded to take the job?

How quickly things change. If Barrow could have held out just a few minutes more at the weekend Whing would probably still have his job this morning.

Yeah, fair point but he’s there and he’s certainly more experienced and, for now, he’s what we’ve got. Would be surprised to see us move quickly for someone (did we move too quickly after Clemence, with hindsight?) and, even if we did, who - realistically - would fancy it? Think it’s a case of galvanising the players we have got (some excellent ones maybe not being used properly), adding a couple of loanees if possible, and just getting us to a place a safety.

Whing did that and look how the affected him. Constant complaints about being away for his family for days at a time. Mark Cooper similar. McDonald lives in the Preston area so should he make a good fist of interim his home location is ideal.

And as a side note.. let's not go forward with the little barrow [SwearFilter].. let's sell ourselves as a real hardy football club that has royal port prestige!

We were voted out the league 48 years ago, not rock bottom.. we have suffered enough since that day, time to start thinking and believing we are bigger, better and more than what history says we are!

We need someone who can understand and relate to our story and want to believe and put things right!

I always thought IE left too early, he excelled with us and his belief, he passed his belief into the players, the club and us as fans.. we all believed! That's what we need right now, someone who can build confidence, belief and courage.

So let's not think of ourselves as a charity case, we want someone who knows that Barrow is actually something quite special, unique and is better than what people perceive! It's not impossible, it's about finding someone who falls in love with the narrative

Clearly McDonald was brought in as a hedge/future caretaker manager (as was Rob Kelly but he left) when it was clear it wasn’t working with Whing.

The issues around the stadium aren’t going away; it’s true it’s not up to L2 standards and this needs addressing or at least starting the conversations around it.

We’ll never truly “feel” like we belong here until we have a stadium that befits league status.

Opening up old and difficult conversations around council ownership and sharing with Raiders need to be had - even if they’re subsequently ruled out.

Other clubs manage to raise the necessary eg Wukkie!
The town fund that’s being spend on a new market hall could have been allocated towards a stadium; but we didn’t pursue that option. I don’t know the ins and outs of the EFL grant funding etc and I’m not privy to any inside information but other clubs have managed it.

Is it time to bite the bullet and have the conversation?


If they owners feel their’s a general consensus around this subject then they could look into it but while it remains controversial they probably won’t bother.
