One thing has stood out to me from the Neil Mcdonald pre match interview "amazingly a few players have got fit" seems like things weren't right behind the scenes for a while

Both his interviews the one with the club and the one with Adam had interesting bits. I also raised about eyebrow when he said "amazingly a few players have got fit" the other when he said to Adam he would be interested in the job.

I only heard the club interview but what came across was how the tone of his answers were so much more upbeat. I think Andy Whing was a genuine nice bloke and I’m sorry to see him go but sadly most of his interviews were a very hard watch, especially that last one. I read that he felt it was a harsh decision to get rid of him. I think after watching those interviews, the club did him a huge favour by putting him out of his misery. He came across as a man where sadly the job had all got a bit too much for him. I actually think he’ll go on to have a decent career and will have probably learnt a lot that he can build on especially, with regards to how he deals with the media. I actually think his undoing was he cared too much and as a result tried too hard.

We've kinda gone for young and up and coming managers/coaches, do we perhaps look to someone who isn't wet behind the ears?

Someone who has had lots of league experience, promotion or promotion pushes?

Read an article a few years back where Ian Holloway stated he was in for the Barrow job but it was only short term so didn’t take it , Phil Brown got the job. He’d had a bad time at Grimsby but now has guided Swindon to the top end of the table and his previous record was pretty impressive at Blackpool.
Possibly a chance that we missed?

I always liked Holloway he’s a character and know Ian Evatt always spoke highly of him and based a lot of his management style on what he had done at Blackpool. You never know what could’ve been as you say he didn’t fare too well at Grimsby but turned Swindon around and has been well backed this season.

Don’t forget we originally well the board at least wanted Phil brown permanently but couldn’t agree terms. Had they got their way we’d never have got Pete Wild in and looking at Browns record in recent years I think it would’ve been a disaster.

The next appointment is a big one we’re not in a great position but also not cut adrift or anything, MacDonald has plenty of experience and I hope he can get the basics right - make us more solid, play with a shape and plan and build from there.

Most places that look to do well are all easily accessible with road and rail.
We are unfortunately a dead end and difficult to get to.
I spent time working and living in Carlisle and that for example was social hub for Carlisle folk, Newcastle, Scotland and north and west Cumbria.
The shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs etc all do well because of the connectivity.

One of the biggest things we need to thrive as a town or overall area is transport infrastructure!

More reliable trains, more trains, better road than the not fit for purpose a590!

Is a bridge the answer? Probably yes

Were we right to say no to roanhead lodges, pushing back of a chance of employment and tourism? Me personally, I think allowing people from everywhere in the UK to have a say in our own area is absolutely shocking. But that's another example of us not taking a leap of faith, grabbing the opportunity and standing still.

Too many HMOs, outsiders taking valuable space, why haven't we ever built high rise accommodation?

So as we stand, we are a place that simply carers for who lives within, with the odd bunch of contractors and very limited tourism.

It's rather condescending to say the Roanhead development only had non-local objections.

I don't know what high rise accommodation you had in mind but I work in social housing and no affordable housing provider would build high rise in Barrow in 2025 for a multitude of reasons.

Anyway I didn't know Michael Jolley was still open to football management work but he's out of the running as he's been announced at Bury.

Neil McDonald is surely leading the race. Already in the building, a head start on knowing the players and where the issues are, plus, most importantly, came across very well in his pre and post match interviews. Calm, reflective and clear.
