Doesn’t matter on this forum, a 16 year old from Fylde can call himself “Billy Blue Bird” create an account, google a few places in Barrow and start a thread about the club going Vegan next year, would still get 7 pages +

Personally would rather wait to hear something official off the club, and the QnA with the board will be soon. loose lips sink ships as the saying goes.

Fair point, well made. It was watching Procky, Burgess, Doc and Skiv etc. when I was a kid that was extra special. I think now in times of it all being more family orientated and on TV more etc. more locals would mean more fans but as I said you’re point is spot on.

Tom Beadling was born in Barra, and the poor lad doesn’t even have his own chant.

Re: The academy, will wait for an official statement from the club but wish the lads well with their GCSE's.

Thanks for the reply, your right do they ever reply to anyone.
The biggest issue with me is telling them the week before they start there exams !!! the club of the community !!!!
I wonder if Phil Brown knows whats going on

Unofficial forum so not obliged to reply. Approaching the club direct is definintly the best option, ask for a meeting to explain the decision.

If you are are going to call someone out on their grammar, you have to ensure that yours is water-tight.

I've written on this forum before about the necessity to shake off the non-league mindset with reference to players training in or near Barrow, rather than remotely and I realise that I'm probably in a minority in thinking that way. However the question of an academy, or a lack thereof also prompts we to question the long term ambition of the club. Maybe it's just unaffordable.

I’ve read all the comments agree on some but not others.
I get football is a harsh world , the club new about this many weeks now I am informed. Why didn’t they let the lads no then !!!! Instead of waiting till this week and not having the decency to inform them. I personally think the club is run like a Sunday league outfit. They will most likely come out and say they are differing it now , when till ? Next year as there are no u15s coming through so all the lads would have to be from away which equals more cost. So realistically it will be 2 years.
At the end of the day we just wanted a answer from the club it’s not a lot to ask, I’ll just stick to watching HOB from now on as some of the football I have seen down HSE has been woeful.
The so called community club what a load of drivel. Thanks for all the responses by the way as most of use are genuine football fans

Don't leave the forum just because you get a few sarcastic comments.I also used to get pulled about my grammar.It goes with the territory,people can be quite harsh on here.
Most posts on here are by people who are passionate about the future of the club and you are when you post about the future of the Academy.
I would wait for an announcement from the club,because it may be financial and I would suspect the club wants to concentrate on building a much stronger playing squad and making sure the ground improvements take place.
They do probably want an Academy,but have decided not to go ahead at the moment until they can properly support it financially,something I suspect they are not able to do at the moment.
It would have been better if they had given you a proper explanation as to why the Academy was being discontinued,maybe arranging a meeting with everybody involved so you were better able to understand the reasons why.If you messaged Paul Hornby privately or sent him a letter asking for a meeting you may get a proper explanation or better still go along to a question and answer session where you can ask him person to person in front of the other people there,who I may suspect are as puzzled as you are as to the change of intention.

For me, knowing nothing about the situation it appears to be a bit of an own goal by the board to pull the plug, in the way that they seem to have done it.

However, if it is for financial reasons then it’s tough shit, they have an EFL club to run, a big rebuild to do again in the summer, a ground to be maintained/improved and all whilst still trying to claw back all the losses in the covid season. It’s a shame for the kids involved of course it is but the priorities are obvious.

If it isn’t financial then they have taken aim firmly at their own feet and are being rightly criticised. I’d be inclined to wait and see the clubs stance on this is first though.

People can understand if there's genuine reasons, but the problem here is whoever was getting a scholarship were told over an email or message (or whatever), with no explanation as to why. That's the part that doesn't sit. Seems disappointing on the face of it.

It makes sense from the club. If they had 6 lads lined up who were bang average, no chance of making the first team squad and no under 15 squad coming though, to cut them.

The financial saving and another 18 months to iron out any issues and problems.

This is a professional business where peoples money is at stake, we don’t have a sheikh owner, this is football it’s a dog eat dog world with consequences.

I for one would no complain one iota if the budget for those 6 academy graduates for 2 years went onto a striker that scored 15-20 league goals for the next 2 seasons and kept us in the football league.

I see it as the board finally becoming ruthless and potent.

I see youth30 as a disgruntled parent as his son didn’t get a contract
